Navbox

You should really ask User:Dantman before adding that navbox. Simant (talk) 20:19, November 22, 2009 (UTC)

Navboxes are a horrible method for nagivation on focused wiki. Navboxes work good on Wikipedia because there are millions of articles, and any one article is normally completely irrelevant to 99.99% of the other articles on the wiki. So navboxes create a nice way of connecting groups of pages.
That doesn't apply to focused wiki. Navboxes create another annoying thing that needs to be manually included on every relevant page, a new page that needs to be edited every time new info comes in. And it doesn't really add anything to navigation because since the entire wiki is focused on that one subject navigation is already a click away, normally a link already exists in the sidebar that points to the page used for navigation on that subject. (On that note, you're welcome to go to MediaWiki talk:Monaco-sidebar and suggest any improvements to MediaWiki:Monaco-sidebar to improve navigation using the sidebar.)
The templates we use around here are much more advanced. Character pages actually are just missing the new infobox. We finished the new jutsu infobox, but the new character infobox needs a bit more work. That new infobox could actually add a bit more navigation to akatsuki member pages.
On another note, we also generally reject templates coded in the way you wrote that one:
  • Templates should never require manual editing along with content in the wiki. We have extensions and data systems in place that allow for templates to automatically change based on changes in content.
  • We don't use inline css, we have full control of the side css and not making proper use of it just adds a lot of really ugly cruft to both page output, and the source we have to edit. (Also, don't use class="toccolors" that's really old Wikipedia style abuse of the software)
  • <font/> is a deprecated HTML tag and should never be used in a page. align="center" is also a deprecated html attribute, css text-align should be used instead. We also have a class=center to make things easier (That is also paired with class="cell-align-center" which will apply a center alignment to all cells in a table). Same goes for width="100%"
  • We have a standard set of box styles, with targeted color schemes, that navbox does not fit in with the styling of the wiki.
  • And lastly, you did border radius wrong. Border radius is a w3c draft that is implemented in 90% of modern browsers. It is NOT a Firefox only feature, but the way you used it (unfortunately the way 99% of the people around Wikia use it) makes it so that the style only shows up in Firefox. You need to include the standard as well as moz, webkit, and khtml variants if you are going to use border-radius at all. "border-radius: 7px; -moz-border-radius: 7px; -webkit-border-radius: 7px; -khtml-border-radius: 7px;". Border radius is implemented by Gecko (Firefox; -moz-border-radius), WebKit (Safari and Chrome; -webkit-border-radius and formerly -khtml-border-radius), and Konqueror (Linux only; -khtml-border-radius). The w3 draft standard is border-radius. IE9 also has border-radius support.
