== Re: RTE ==

It's been disabled pretty much since Wikia introduced it. The RTE actively screwed up our content. Someone would make a trivial edit with the RTE, all of a sudden formatting might be broken, the order of semantic attributes in relation to categories would change, etc...

WYSIWYG is fundamentally broken in MediaWiki right now. That fact was true in the FCKEditor days, the old RTE days, the current RTE days, and will hold true until Wikimedia's VisualEditor work finally deals with the fundamental issues.

Looking at the current state of Wikia's RTE UI. Enabling it would be a very, very, very bad idea. Given the way we use templates like {{Tlx|translation}} Wikia's RTE interface would not only not help new users, but would actually actively screw them over and made it harder for them to edit our content. ~ [[w:c:animanga:User:Dantman|Daniel Friesen]] (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) ([[User talk:Dantman|Local Talk]] &#8285; [[w:c:animanga:User talk:Dantman|Animanga Talk]]) 01:29, November 4, 2012 (UTC)

There used to be Animepedia (anime.wikia) and Animanga Wiki (animanga.wikia). Animepedia was part of my old ACG project. It housed the shared templates, scripts, styles, policy pages, etc... And back when Wikia restricted wiki creation and required notable topics it was going to be a central wiki that also allowed dedicated mini-wiki for anime that were too small for their own wiki. But that later purpose died off and save for all the shared stuff the wiki had no purpose. Animanga Wiki is the successor. A hub wiki bringing all the animanga wiki together.

So anime.wikia was basically dead. Staff said lots of people mistakenly ended up on anime.wikia and animanga was a term not everyone might know. So they wanted to point anime.wikia to animanga.wikia. But when they got around to doing that they skipped over my recommendations to move anime.wikia to something like anime-legacy.wikia and redirect certain things like the shared resources to anime-legacy. Now the source of the shared stuff, some reference materials, history, etc... have disappeared. ~ [[w:c:animanga:User:Dantman|Daniel Friesen]] (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) ([[User talk:Dantman|Local Talk]] &#8285; [[w:c:animanga:User talk:Dantman|Animanga Talk]]) 05:05, November 4, 2012 (UTC)

:Yeah I know. Once upon a time there was a requests.wikia. You made a request for a wiki. And along with it you explained it's topic, notability, etc... and staff made sure that only wikis with notable topics that could span more than a couple pages were created. And that only one wiki on a topic was created.
+
==Wiki Affiliation==
:So, part of Animanga's purpose back then was to act as host to mini-wikis on small series. Since the ACG's ultimate goal was to cover '''EVERY''' anime series in existence. Even anime series so small that Wikipedia didn't have an article on them. ~ [[w:c:animanga:User:Dantman|Daniel Friesen]] (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) ([[User talk:Dantman|Local Talk]] &#8285; [[w:c:animanga:User talk:Dantman|Animanga Talk]]) 05:29, November 4, 2012 (UTC)

I have no idea. When an unspecified combination starts being used it begins showing up in infoboxes, and in the process of removing it I follow Simant's example of adding every possible combination. I would think, thanks to forms, there tends to only be one combination of medias, in which case 99% of the permutations will never be used. '''''~[[User:Snapper2|Snapper]][[User talk:Snapper2|T]][[Special:Contributions/Snapper2|o]]''''' 16:54, July 31, 2015 (UTC)
  +
:Sort of related: [[Team Konohamaru]]'s members are listed as manga only when their appearance in ''Boruto'' should cancel out the any sort of media only tag.
  +
:While I'm on the topic, I added a movie canon property a while back that hasn't been functioning as I wanted. The absolute simplest way to make everything work would be to add the <code>movie canon</code> value in with <code>manga</code>, <code>anime</code>, etc. But I've avoided doing that because I didn't want to employ another hundred permutations to accept the value but not display it.
  +
:If you could somehow setup <code>|media=Movie canon</code> to display as "Movie" and <code>|media=Movie, Movie canon</code> to also display as "Movie", the ''The Last'' and ''Boruto''-only stuff would start displaying. '''''~[[User:Snapper2|Snapper]][[User talk:Snapper2|T]][[Special:Contributions/Snapper2|o]]''''' 17:17, August 11, 2015 (UTC)
  +
::Would it be easy for <code>Movie canon</code> to display if not accompanied by <code>Movie</code>? My personal preference is that <code>Movie canon</code> pertain to only ''The Last'' and ''Boruto'' and that <code>Movie</code> pertain to all the prior films. So [[Dotō]] would have <code>Movie</code>, [[Naruto]] would have <code>Movie, Movie canon</code>, and [[Sarada]] would have only <code>Movie canon</code>. The first two work as desired, but giving only <code>Movie canon</code> for Sarada displays nothing. It's not a big deal if it's too complicated, but if it's not... '''''~[[User:Snapper2|Snapper]][[User talk:Snapper2|T]][[Special:Contributions/Snapper2|o]]''''' 18:12, August 11, 2015 (UTC)
  +
:::That's too bad. "Canon" is just for the sake of distinguishment and would ideally not appear in any articles. But that's alright.
  +
:::Two final hiccups (or possibly one if they're related)
  +
:::#If a jutsu's user is tagged as <code>~Movie canon</code>, such as Boruto for Rasengan, the jutsu doesn't display in the user's infobox. I assume it's related to the cheat I used to cause the tag to display differently. An ask for Boruto returns all the jutsu that it should ({{#ask: [[Concept:Jutsu/Canon]] [[User tech::Boruto Uzumaki]]|limit=5}}), so I don't know what the problem would be. I actually suspect this has been the cause of some of my previous issues since I still don't understand how Simant configured the infobox's process of selecting jutsu to display. It seems to be over-complicated, whatever it is.
  +
:::#Using Boruto again: Vanishing Rasengan displays in his infobox but it lacks the movie tag. You've directed me to [[Template:Infobox/Naruto/MediaCleaner]] before for this problem, yet that doesn't seem to be working here.
  +
:::I do thank you for all your help! '''''~[[User:Snapper2|Snapper]][[User talk:Snapper2|T]][[Special:Contributions/Snapper2|o]]''''' 17:28, August 19, 2015 (UTC)

::::If you don't mind me chiming in, to answer your second point Snapper, [[Vanishing Rasengan]] only appears in the novel and movie media, so because it's never shown in the manga and/or anime media it's gonna show up in Boruto's infobox. Gentle Fist, Rasengan, etc...won't because they debuted in the manga and consequently the anime. The [[Shadow Clone Technique]], he used in the gaiden manga, so naturally that'll appear. Hope that helps a little.--[[User:Minamoto15|Mina]] [[Image:Hatake Symbol.svg|20px]] <small> [[User talk:Minamoto15|talk]] | [[Special:Contributions/Minamoto15|contribs]]</small> 20:48, August 19, 2015 (UTC)

:::::Novel, yes. Game, no. Standard Movie, it depends: there hasn't been a centralized discussion about adding it. I enabled movies for kekkei genkai infoboxes since space is less of an issue there.
  +
:::::In reference to Minamoto's comment, it might be useful to have a hierarchy for media tags where:
  +
:::::*Manga by itself = (Manga only)
  +
:::::*Manga with anything else = no tag
  +
:::::*Anime without Manga, regardless of other tags = (Anime only)
  +
:::::*Movie canon without Manga or Anime, regardless of other tags = (Movie only)
  +
:::::*Novel without Manga, Anime, or Movie canon, regardless of other tags = (Novel only)

Did you do this for all infoboxes? Also, could you remove the parentheses from the infoboxes' "(Kanji, ''Romaji'')"?<br />And what do you think about implementing ruby? Would that be possible? We could also use <nowiki><span title="{{{2|title}}}" style="border-bottom:1px dotted">{{{1|surface}}}</span></nowiki>, which would result in <span title="{{{2|title}}}" style="border-bottom:1px dotted">{{{1|surface}}}</span><noinclude>.<br />Also, I'd like you to add the ''Ninjutsu'' classification possibility to kekkei genkai infoboxes please. • [[User:Seelentau|Seelentau 愛]] [[User Talk:Seelentau|]] 23:19, August 17, 2015 (UTC)

:What I meant is that the kekkei genkai infobox should've the same classification possibilities as techniques. :Dunno if this is related to your recent edits to some templates, but certain jutsu are appearing where they're not supposed to. For example, jutsu that have appeared in manga and anime, but that characters are listed as using only in game, are showing up in their infoboxes. For example, Naruto and Sasuke appear as anime-only users of Water Release: Water Gun. So, in an effort to make a more accurate categorization, Seelentau added ninjutsu and dōjutsu through the various kekkei genkai articles in the infobox. That had the unfortunate consequence of messing with those article's categorizations, and also removed them from being detected as such in [[Special:BrowseData]], you can see the counter at the right column no longer shows them. Is this an easy thing to fix, or would it be necessary to remove the ninjutsu and dōjutsu from the infoboxes? In the Wikia skin, the default location of the "show changes since" is located in the bottom of the recent changes page, which is quite counter-productive in my opinion. I was at the Harry Potter wikia, and noticed than in addition to several other links, theirs "show changes since" appears in the recent changes options box. Think you can talk with their code-maintaining members and figure out a way for us to do the same? I at least when I'm going through the RC page, I go bottom up to check the edits in the order they happen, and to have to either scroll down or press the "end" key to reach the bottom and be able to click that link, it's rather time-wasting, and adds up to a while at the end of the day. re: medicleaner Edit

I have no idea. When an unspecified combination starts being used it begins showing up in infoboxes, and in the process of removing it I follow Simant's example of adding every possible combination. I would think, thanks to forms, there tends to only be one combination of medias, in which case 99% of the permutations will never be used. ~SnapperTo 16:54, July 31, 2015 (UTC)

Sort of related: Team Konohamaru's members are listed as manga only when their appearance in Boruto should cancel out the any sort of media only tag.
While I'm on the topic, I added a movie canon property a while back that hasn't been functioning as I wanted. The absolute simplest way to make everything work would be to add the movie canon value in with manga, anime, etc. But I've avoided doing that because I didn't want to employ another hundred permutations to accept the value but not display it.
If you could somehow setup |media=Movie canon to display as "Movie" and |media=Movie, Movie canon to also display as "Movie", the The Last and Boruto-only stuff would start displaying. ~SnapperTo 17:17, August 11, 2015 (UTC)
Would it be easy for Movie canon to display if not accompanied by Movie? My personal preference is that Movie canon pertain to only The Last and Boruto and that Movie pertain to all the prior films. So Dotō would have Movie, Naruto would have Movie, Movie canon, and Sarada would have only Movie canon. The first two work as desired, but giving only Movie canon for Sarada displays nothing. It's not a big deal if it's too complicated, but if it's not... ~SnapperTo 18:12, August 11, 2015 (UTC)
That's too bad. "Canon" is just for the sake of distinguishment and would ideally not appear in any articles. But that's alright.
Two final hiccups (or possibly one if they're related)
  1. If a jutsu's user is tagged as ~Movie canon, such as Boruto for Rasengan, the jutsu doesn't display in the user's infobox. I assume it's related to the cheat I used to cause the tag to display differently. An ask for Boruto returns all the jutsu that it should (Gentle Fist, Rasengan, Shadow Clone Technique, Vanishing Rasengan), so I don't know what the problem would be. I actually suspect this has been the cause of some of my previous issues since I still don't understand how Simant configured the infobox's process of selecting jutsu to display. It seems to be over-complicated, whatever it is.
  2. Using Boruto again: Vanishing Rasengan displays in his infobox but it lacks the movie tag. You've directed me to Template:Infobox/Naruto/MediaCleaner before for this problem, yet that doesn't seem to be working here.
I do thank you for all your help! ~SnapperTo 17:28, August 19, 2015 (UTC)
If you don't mind me chiming in, to answer your second point Snapper, Vanishing Rasengan only appears in the novel and movie media, so because it's never shown in the manga and/or anime media it's gonna show up in Boruto's infobox. Gentle Fist, Rasengan, etc...won't because they debuted in the manga and consequently the anime. The Shadow Clone Technique, he used in the gaiden manga, so naturally that'll appear. Hope that helps a little.--Mina Hatake Symbol talk | contribs 20:48, August 19, 2015 (UTC)
Novel, yes. Game, no. Standard Movie, it depends: there hasn't been a centralized discussion about adding it. I enabled movies for kekkei genkai infoboxes since space is less of an issue there.
In reference to Minamoto's comment, it might be useful to have a hierarchy for media tags where:
  • Manga by itself = (Manga only)
  • Manga with anything else = no tag
  • Anime without Manga, regardless of other tags = (Anime only)
  • Movie canon without Manga or Anime, regardless of other tags = (Movie only)
  • Novel without Manga, Anime, or Movie canon, regardless of other tags = (Novel only)
Or something. ~SnapperTo 17:53, August 21, 2015 (UTC)
(I can't think of any examples of that arrangement.) I believe we're treating Moive canon as "more official" than the anime, so I suppose Movie canon + Anime = (Movie only). ~SnapperTo 19:05, August 21, 2015 (UTC)

Indonesia Springtime of YouthEdit

Filter issue Edit

Is it possible you can help out with this? An automated filter blocks edits that consist of adding things like "Sakura Uchiha" to articles (and I can guess why...). Anyway, the filter says "When a[n] official source uses the character[']s clan name as [a] surname, your edit will be allowed." However, this is the official source, confirming things like "Hinata Uzumaki" and "Sakura Uchiha." Is it possible you can deactivate the filter and help out with the discussion at hand? • Sasuke's latter appearance in Part I.

Infobox manga debut section Edit

Yup, just like on the picture. :) • Seelentau 愛 17:56, August 16, 2015 (UTC)

Did you do this for all infoboxes? Also, could you remove the parentheses from the infoboxes' "(Kanji, Romaji)"?
And what do you think about implementing ruby? Would that be possible? We could also use <span title="{{{2|title}}}" style="border-bottom:1px dotted">{{{1|surface}}}</span>, which would result in surface.
Also, I'd like you to add the Ninjutsu classification possibility to kekkei genkai infoboxes please. • Seelentau 愛 23:19, August 17, 2015 (UTC)

Ah, you did that for all infoboxes, I think. But could you switch it to Volume #X, chapter #Y? Or doesn't that work? Dunno if the parentheses are needed there, either. • Seelentau 愛 01:05, August 18, 2015 (UTC)

Alright, thanks. :) But could the Romaji be in italics again? Oh and I don't know about ruby, I'm not sure if we'd ever use it, I was just asking you^^ I'm gonna ask the community about it.
And what about the Volume #X, chapter #Y format in the infoboxes and the Ninjutsu classification possibility for the kekkei genkai infobox? Is that possible? • Seelentau 愛 12:12, August 18, 2015 (UTC)

What I meant is that the kekkei genkai infobox should've the same classification possibilities as techniques. The Rinnegan and other dojutsu should be classified as "Kekkei Genkai, Dojutsu", while the other kekkei genkai should be classified as "Kekkei Genkai, Ninjutsu". Same for kekkei tota and kekkei mora. Could you add that? • Seelentau 愛 12:57, August 18, 2015 (UTC)

Hiding stuff Edit

So, I tried using MediaWiki:Gadget-InfoboxHide.css to hide Ame no Ohabari from the Mangekyō Sharingan infobox, but it didn't work. Did I do it right or is there an underlying issue? Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 00:10, August 17, 2015 (UTC)

Dunno if this is related to your recent edits to some templates, but certain jutsu are appearing where they're not supposed to. For example, jutsu that have appeared in manga and anime, but that characters are listed as using only in game, are showing up in their infoboxes. For example, Naruto and Sasuke appear as anime-only users of Water Release: Water Gun. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 14:26, August 20, 2015 (UTC)
