Where have you been...

...because no one has followed that rule since it was posted. Not even the mods, which was about a year ago. Is this seriously something you just added without conversing with the mods because I don't see anything that approves of that rule. --OmegaRasengan (talk) 09:12, September 4, 2014 (UTC)

Unless you can provide proof in recent days that this rule is something that should be followed for now on within recent days, I'm reverting your edit. --OmegaRasengan (talk) 09:22, September 4, 2014 (UTC)
People making it later doesn't prove anything and you know that wasn't what I was asking. I need proof of you discussing with a mod of this rule being established from now on recently.--OmegaRasengan (talk) 09:28, September 4, 2014 (UTC)
I am saying that you did because you were the one that added that rule there from the page's edit history. Do not whine to me when I've been asking you to explain yourself thoroughly. And do not go making accusations that I'm "lying" to get you in trouble. I'm trying to have this situation dealt with, not getting you into trouble which you keep on insisting on to get me into trouble.--OmegaRasengan (talk) 09:35, September 4, 2014 (UTC)
You say that, and then I see this. The rule to delete pages before 3am was added by you according to the edit history. And regardless of the policy existing before that addition, nobody has correctly followed it. I leave Ultimate3 or whatever mod to settle this.--OmegaRasengan (talk) 09:49, September 4, 2014 (UTC)

Do we have a partnership with Crunchyroll that I'm unaware of? I'm not agreeing with this rule at all. ~Hakinu Allied Shinobi Forces Symbol (talk | contribs) 12:50, September 4, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the head's up. I can already guess why such stupid (and somewhat uncomfortable) discussions are not permitted on this wiki, but I still want a full explanation why, please. Oh I know they can't be on the wiki, but I was talking about specifically why they can't be on the forums. A lot of fanon goes on in the forums, but what makes pairings/shippings different from other fanon on the forums?--WindStar7125 WindStar7125 Task WindStar7125's Task 22:10, September 14, 2014 (UTC)
Ah, I see. An unspoken rule. I get that. Anyway thanks. Also, can you show me where the agreement was to ban such unwarranted consultations? Yes, thank you very much! I'll read this thing. Anyway, I apologize for not reporting this to you on an earlier date. I noticed the discussion when it was first created and I was like "Dafuq? That's not allowed here, right? Well, some sysop is going to lay down his authority, so I'll back off from this one and not get involved." Then I kept seeing the thread, much to my irritation, and then when I saw the discussion get close to 100 messages, I was like "Oh hell no. I have got to stop this idiocy from expanding and soiling this well-oiled wiki..." and that's how we got here. Again, I apologize for not noting this earlier. After reading the discussion you linked to me, I'll do my best to make sure this wiki doesn't become polluted with such ludicrousness and stupidity (yes, I used that word, for I am very against pairing discussions). So thanks again! :)--WindStar7125 WindStar7125 Task WindStar7125's Task 22:43, September 14, 2014 (UTC)

I just had a look at the script and it assumes that you have walls enabled (even to work just on forums). So maybe you could ask on the script's talkpage about it or we could just do it like we do on Naruto Answers in article comments?--~UltimateSupreme 14:46, September 18, 2014 (UTC)

Opinion please

Last week I made a section on Kirisame's page about what he did in the OVA. I would like you to check if it's okay. Im asking because if it's bad I don't want to make anymore. Munchvtec (talk) 12:30, September 18, 2014 (UTC)

Re: For the first time here, I'm gonna be real serious

You're input helps a lot. To be quite honest, I am not a fan of forums to begin with, and I'm tired of seeing them. Yes, they create arguments, and a lot of fanon takes place there. It really doesn't help the wiki, it just adds to a user's editcount. --WindStar7125 WindStar7125 Task WindStar7125's Task 12:15, September 22, 2014 (UTC)

Then I think we should enforce it. For the time being, I've decided to take a break from forums unless I have to participate (such as reaching a consensus or executive decisions). Before, I couldn't help but respond to and correct the fanon that many users put on those forums (Example: "Naruto will get the Rinnegan"). But that leads to arguments worse than what we have on article talkpages. I thought forums were a way to end annoying edit conflicts, and other reasons attached to it. I also thought it was a way to talk about other Naruto-related things happening in the real world (such as updates on the Naruto: The Last movie). We've laid down the law on many things on this wiki, so why not Snapper2's thread? Don't get me wrong though. I'm not suggesting that we get rid of forums altogether or that I have an obscene hatred towards them or anything, but they've gotten out of hand. --WindStar7125 WindStar7125 Task WindStar7125's Task 21:43, September 22, 2014 (UTC)
Eh, you don't have to be sorry. I cause enough trouble there by fighting with other users. I decided to take a break because of one: myself, two: the fanon there, and three: the endless arguments. It's better for the wiki if I'm not there for the time being. I don't need to make things get off topic and heated because of remarks others make about me. Again, not trying to play the victim, I'm just as much a bully on these forums. It's one thing to have a relevant argument over the subject (like how it happens on article talkpages). It's another thing altogether when users (like myself and others) take things personally and argue about things that deviate from the topic at hand. --WindStar7125 WindStar7125 Task WindStar7125's Task 21:57, September 22, 2014 (UTC)

Kakashi introduction arc

Hey SuperSajuuk about the information on kakashi's page i deleted. Why is that information in Kakashi's introduction arc. I know its anime only content but it could of taken place anywhere from the start of the Land of Waves Arc to the Chūnin Exam Arc. Edit: You claimed here while responding to Munchvtec that you "think there's a few misconceptions floating around about the board itself and that needs to be addressed." and that you "may make a post about it and clear up these misconceptions and lay down exactly what the forums are for and what the wiki is not." I art here

I'm here. I'm in a bit of a mix of predicaments that keeps me away from being active at the moment. I'm ill for starters. Fell down a flight of stairs and hurt my foot pretty badly. In addition I have attracted the flu. Secondly I've been working so very, very hard to do a semester's work load in one month due to the fact that I have twice the amount of work this semester. Thirdly I've been a bit baffled by the odd rules that have been taken into action since I left, and the unwillingness I find for any change. It's not very encouraging. ~Hakinu Allied Shinobi Forces Symbol (talk | contribs) 12:04, September 29, 2014 (UTC)

Phoarrr... I had some problems with finding the words for your third point in the "Where art thou" message you left me in my absence. Thanks for that, btw. It's nice to feel that people notice my absence. The main problem I've encountered with the wiki is that it's become so focused on the forum and less on content. And it's gone stale with the rules discouraging correcting mistakes, like that whole capital letter for Hokage issue we had a while back. It seriously isn't correct according to English grammar. Anyway, it makes me feel like I have little to contribute to, perhaps except for overhauls. I want to do article overhauls on those that have been ruined by lots of unneccessary details and horrible language. But this will have to wait. For now I think my role will be minimal because of university. I'll have more of the policing kind of role rather than creating content... and for the forums... blargh. If it can be avoided I would rather not have to read through all the boring stuff people tend to bring up for discussion. I'm not that kind of nerd, if you know what I mean. I can get majorly excited about history, Assassin's Creed, Game of Thrones and Doctor Who... but policing people getting extremely agitated over a theoretical discussion about Naruto characters, and even getting nasty with one another? Blargh. ~Hakinu Allied Shinobi Forces Symbol (talk | contribs) 20:13, October 7, 2014 (UTC)
Edit/add: Reading e.g. this extremely intedestin topic makes me blargh what is the point blargh. ~Hakinu Allied Shinobi Forces Symbol (talk | contribs) 20:16, October 7, 2014 (UTC)

In reference to the message you left on the talk page of w:c:dev:Talk:FileUsageAuto-update, would you mind attempting to rename the image once more please? The hookaborted error message is returned from the API and it seems that it might've been a misconfiguration on Wikia's side. If you wouldn't mind trying to rename it again at some point that would be awesome. Thanks! — Foodbandlt (talk) 15:51, September 29, 2014 (UTC)

After talking to a few others, would you mind trying to rename the image to that name manually, as in not using the script? It might be trying to throw an error specific to that image but it's using a generic error "hookaborted" in place of an appropriate one that may not exist. If it succeeds without error then you can move it back to the original name. Let me know how it goes please! — Foodbandlt (talk) 16:40, September 29, 2014 (UTC)

forum topic history

Doesn't really work

When accessed from the topic itself, it shows it like this: that's all fine and all, but it would be nice if the messages could be seen too. For example when we remove someone's comment, there's no way to check what the comment was once it's done, only one opportunity to undo the deletion.--Elve [Moderator] Talk Page|Contribs 14:00, October 2, 2014 (UTC)

That's great, thanks. And I guess my multi-quoting proposition got ignored :P Apparently too much work to implement, or UltimateSupreme doesn't think it's necessary. Well, I think it is, because people are basically forced to doublepost sometime, only to then copy the latter message, merge it with previous and remove the doublepost (those that care, that's it). It's possible to quote multiple messages by writing it out manually, but who is supposed to remember it?--Elve [Moderator] Talk Page|Contribs 14:10, October 2, 2014 (UTC)

Unless you want a specific sysop to make a specific action, this sort of request is best placed at Sysop Requests. ~SnapperTo 17:09, October 2, 2014 (UTC)

It's still a page you want a sysop to edit. So make a request of the sysops. ~SnapperTo 18:41, October 2, 2014 (UTC)
Just because I'm a sysop does not mean I need to do everything that is asked of me. I'm allowed to have opinions, you know. Which is why I suggested you use the Sysop Requests, so that you can find someone with an opinion different from my own. ~SnapperTo 18:53, October 2, 2014 (UTC)

Okay- do you think either a new thread should be created or a new section in one of the arc's talk pages should be created to discuss the issue? I tried, but it didn't work, so I used the {{NewArchive}} method instead.--Mangekyō Sharingan Izuna JOA20 09:22, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

Hey Saj, I know that rollbacks/moderators can remove threads, and sysops can close them. But what's the difference? They both ensure that users can no longer reply to threads that were closed/removed.

Edit: Unless closing threads is a way to avoid anyone restoring a removed one... • WindStar7125 [Moderator] WindStar7125 Task WindStar7125's Task 21:05, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

Ah, ok then. Thanks!
Edit: Also, I think you should archive your page, lolelolel. It's getting long, IMO. • WindStar7125 [Moderator] WindStar7125 Task WindStar7125's Task 21:15, October 12, 2014 (UTC)
Oh? I usually archive mine after 30 headings, lol. And that's true, some users really have to archive their long-ass pages. I mean really. • WindStar7125 [Moderator] WindStar7125 Task WindStar7125's Task 21:21, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

Sockpuppet comment accidentally restored

Sorry, the Wikia forums are still unintuitively designed, I think I accidentally restored one of the sockpuppet posts in Thread:144129#136. Go ahead and re-delete it, the forum styling and logging is so bad I don't even know which one of the posts was the deleted one. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 10:41, October 13, 2014 (UTC)

Hey. I'm mostly online during the evenings the most, after I get home from work. Anyways, I had no idea how to "chat" properly on this (or any, really) Wikia. Blaezej (talk) 18:55, October 14, 2014 (UTC)

Re: 'Grats

This was just a background technical change. The Gadgets system has a much better system than Common.js for loading things. The loading is integrated with MediaWiki's Resource Loader and also has proper loading of separate CSS pages. Wikia doesn't even have a UI for users to disable Gadgets (unless they know the special trick), the reason we had Gadgets installed in the first place was to use for loading the different modules of tools, etc... that we have in place of Common.js.

For a bit of off-wiki info: Common.js is actually enough of an old legacy system in MediaWiki that discussions about deprecating it have popped up in wikitech-l (MediaWiki's development mailing list). Also wikis like have moved their entire Common.js into a single "Site" gadget. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 20:00, October 14, 2014 (UTC)

Wikia's skin customizations to Special:Preferences don't have Gadgets handling, so the Gadgets tab doesn't show up when a normal user visits preferences.
Unfortunately you might be right about it being unstable, I wish Wikia would fix their track record when it comes to making sure that standard MediaWiki extensions work (Gadgets is even bundled with the MediaWiki tarball).
Btw, it looks like Gadgets was already being used for some semi-essential functionality like the sig reminder.
~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 20:12, October 14, 2014 (UTC)
The Gadgets tab showing up on the Wikia skin is actually strange. When it was working before it showed up in MonoBook but not Wikia for me. And when I requested Gadgets they even warned me it wouldn't be available in preferences for Wikia skin users (though of course they could have fixed that).
Gadgets was used for SigReminder (the scripts that ensure users sign their talkpage edits) so that reasoning doesn't really make sense. The ForumTags script is based off of a dev.wikia script that was meant to go in Common.js and Gadgets is a system that not everyone knows about yet (especially since it's present here on custom request like SMW/etc..., not a standard Wikia feature), hence why it was added to a Common.js imported script first.
~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 20:34, October 14, 2014 (UTC)
Strictly speaking, I should mention, there's no such thing as a script that absolutely needs to be loaded at all times for all users. Our site scripts can be blocked at the browser level and as long as Wikia hasn't screwed up MonoBook too much you can edit with JS disabled. And ultimately JS is not absolute, is run on the user's computer which they have control over, there are any number of ways to bypass something a script does.
The difference is really just modules that add optional extras most people don't need vs. modules that add stuff useful to everyone that may be used from some templates, etc...
Disabling VotesTally does make the bars on the template not work and disabling ForumTags does make it hard to see a user's tag, so there's no reason any normal user would bother disabling them. But if someone does intentionally disable it they don't really break the wiki, they just make some templates or some bonus feature not work correctly for themselves personally.
Though there is an interesting idea that would take advantage of the ability to disable default gadgets. Beta/alpha gadgets for devs. Right now you to fix or add something you have to edit the live script that's serving everyone and you can't test it, so if you make a mistake, you break it for everyone. Using Gadgets you could make a second copy of the Gadget, and enable it while disabling the default gadget.
Anyways after Wikia fixes Gadgets we can look and see if it's possible to turn the default-functionality section into a collapsed advanced options section. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 21:13, October 14, 2014 (UTC)
No, once I do a little more testing and get something to eat I should start working. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 21:23, October 14, 2014 (UTC)

Forum admin

No, it just means I need 3 test users for testing to work. One makes normal user posts. One has forumadmin. And a third shows the non-admin non-mod interface, since the first can't be used for that since he has partial extra rights on his own posts, and I personally have full sysop rights. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 21:49, October 14, 2014 (UTC)

But on the actual topic of forumadmin. It does look like it's broken in my initial tests.
When I talked to staff they did mention there was an issue specific to Elder Scrolls and there are other wikis that already have working forum specific moderators.
But I actually think I might have found the source of our bug, I asked for another change that will let me test that estimate and we'll see what happens. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 23:51, October 14, 2014 (UTC)
Looks like I was right. Wikia's Forum extension is heavily based off of their Wall extension and a lot of the code handling Forums actually simply defers to the Wall extension. As a result for some of the actions like post editing and thread closing, Wall is actually in charge of the rights checks, and instead of checking for forumadmin it checks for wall related rights like wallarchive and walledit.
So one option would actually be to make forumadmins also wall admins until Wikia fixes the rights handing for Forums. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 21:23, October 16, 2014 (UTC)
Nope, Forums depend on the underlying Walls code, but the Walls themselves don't need to be enabled. The integration is fundamental to the Forums, if Walls had to be enabled completely for part of Forums to work, it would affect the entire extension and we wouldn't have any forums without the Walls.
I've already tested it, as a test our forumadmin group right now has walledit and wallarchive, and I was able to successfully edit a post and close a thread as my test mod. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 21:42, October 16, 2014 (UTC)
That's because for some reason WallMessage::canEdit does this:
$this->can( $user, 'edit' ) && ( $this->isAuthor($user) || $this->can($user, 'walledit') || $this->can($user, 'rollback') );
Checking for either walledit or rollback when deciding whether a user is allowed to edit a post that's not theirs.
I'm not certain why Wikia did that. ~ Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (Local TalkAnimanga Talk) 21:49, October 16, 2014 (UTC)

Tobirama's anime image

Sorry, I didn't see that comment tag. And you're right, the anime depiction is quite difficult to see. —Shakhmoot Nadeshiko Village Symbol (Talk) 18:32, October 20, 2014 (UTC)

I am well aware of both the discussion and how image swapping works. I know why I asked Shakhmoot to upload the image. But thank you for your input.--Cerez365Hyūga Symbol(talk) 01:18, October 21, 2014 (UTC)

I've decided to change the scene for the same purpose with a better anime depiction with changing some words in the description. If you have any objection, I'm ready and you can revert it. —Shakhmoot Nadeshiko Village Symbol (Talk) 04:13, October 21, 2014 (UTC)

Forgive the sarcasm. I should have made it painstakingly clear that your input was not necessary. I will know better next time. Maybe you should leave mainspace affairs to people who actually contribute to it.--Cerez365Hyūga Symbol(talk) 15:06, October 22, 2014 (UTC)

Re:Naruto Answers

I get your point, but wasn't Naruto Answers created specifically only for answering questions? Don't they also have a better interface for that type of need? I am not part of Naruto Answers, but I have to ask out of curiosity, are we on bad terms with them (from what I can see Narutopedia's users are editing there also), or why exactly do you think redirecting the question there is a bad idea? --Vecanoi (talk) 01:55, October 21, 2014 (UTC)
