Consistency. All other characters with that same relevance and status are introduced like that. Besides, "major supporting character" sounds better than "main supporting character", in my opinion. I also feel there's less potential for mix-ups, since both "main" and "supporting" are used to describe character classes. Using "major" as a modifier to "supporting" is preferable to using a word which carries another meaning in that context. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 22:05, August 9, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, well it seems like determining the relevance of characters is very subjective. For example, Jiraiya played a major part in the story early on and at his death. But he hasn't been mentioned in over 100 chapters. Shikamaru was very relevant in about 4 or 5 arcs, but he hasn't done anything important in almost 100 chapters either.
