Hey, Radaghast. I know that some stuff is really harsh on your hopes on the wikia. Remember it is a NEW wikia, so the rules are not 100% refined and put to stone. I'm trying to bend my own rules to make it more flexable for those who want to make a page for a character, just to show him/her to the world, and one who wants to introduce a character and have it interact with others. I'll have your thoughts in mind as I continue to fix up the holes in the fanon. If you talk to me about a major problem between yourself and the rules, I will definitely look into it and try to help you around my own rules, as long as they are reasonable. I'll answer some of your complaints here.

  1. The clashing of characters rule is so that people would not start arguing with each other about their page being better, and soon catching the notice of the wikia staff. Then the fanon can be at risk of closure for its point being lost. I can add a portion to make that rule more flexable to your own benefit.
  2. The whole "characters you cannot have" are stuff like the Hokage, Akatsuki Leader, Kazekage, etc. That is so that people would not frequently have same kages, such as two Hokages. That would not work out smoothly. Everyone tossing in jinchuuriki would not be fun, since then people would be using outrageously powerful techniques and having excuses to commit actions other people would hate a lot. This rule is the shakiest I have, and I am working on revisions of it right now. I probably did not make this clear, but characters that are to be used in role plays have to be acknowledged by an administrator.
  3. "Do not expect many articles in the first few months" means that I do not expect the wikia to be filled up with 100+ articles for a couple months, given the exposure it is getting to the outside world. Even if I add every single OC and custom technique, weaponry, etc... to the wikia, I would have only about 20 articles. For an encyclopedia, that is not a lot.

Hopefully I answered the reasoning I have for the rules I put. Tell your friends about the fanon, and have them critique my rules, and then I can make revisions to my rules to make it more community friendly. I hope you understand my method of thinking for the fanon. Thank you for speaking out about the flaws of my fanon rules. I hope you will contribute to Naruto Fanon in the future. --Dubtiger 12:10, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

All right, I was hoping to grab your attention somehow to continue discussion, and I'm glad you found time to answer.
Basically, the main problem as I see it now is that your rules contradict the original proposal. You have requested a Naruto Fanon Wikia that pretty much lets users add whatever fan-made information they want, as long as it makes sense. Of course, you can bend the last bit ("makes sense") a lot, but I doubt it would suit the objective of having a growing wiki. If you want to use it for role-play itself, it is possible (yet not that successful, as known from D&D Wikia), if you allow the other uses. Just think about it: how many players can you combine in one game that will go on, progress, not wither? Keep all participants interested? My limit so far has been ten, and I have quite an experience. I know one guy who can manage up to twenty, but he has even more experience, and he spends several hours on it on a daily basis for years. Are you sure that's what you want? Are you sure you can do it?
As for clashing characters, let me give an example: Wikipedia probably has quite a few articles about "best fighters in the unverse". There is neither collision nor contradiction because they all belong to different fictional universes. While here there's basically only one universe: Naruto's, actually every fanon makes up its own variation of it. If you allow only one variation, you'll end up severely limiting the MAXIMUM number of pages of NFW.
Limiting the allowed characters is a problem that has the roots in the same issue: only one fanon variation. Some people play in the fanon version where Tobi is Obito, others like the idea of Akatsuki Leader being Yondaime and Naruto's father, etc. Basically, there is no such thing as one true fanon Akatsuki Leader! And even if there were, it would've been a canon Akatsuki Leader, not the fanon Akatsuki Leader. Do you see the difference that illustrates my point?
By the way, you can also consider allowing (properly licensed) fan fiction. I do not write fanfics nor do I read them (preferring fan art), but lots and lots of people do, and sometimes a short story tells more about an OC than a formally written description.
As for me personally and my possible contribution, you may take a look at http://konoha.pbwiki.com/ - it's not in English so you can't read all of it, but it's enough to give you an idea (the sidebar is a list of OCs, click through them). Not all stuff is already there, but we do have well above 100 articles. The fake screencaps and similar images are mostly used, but I will re-draw all of them soon.
The information there follows the canon the best it can: we've been RPing for longer than a year, but we still have just several minor differences. But. First, it takes place 40 years after current manga, and we say Tsunade gives her title to Kakashi, and Naruto becomes a seventh hokage. This is a kind of information that I cannot put in the NFW because these key characters are locked. In fact, even if I convince you to let me do it, it would lock them for future contributors who like the idea of, say, Naruto being the Sixth and Konohamaru the Seventh.
Second, we needed more info for the game that is in the canon, so we made some stuff up: e.g., after 40 years the Akatsuki have been defeated and we invented a way for each one of them to die. Again, I cannot put it in the NFW. Third somewhat minor point is that the main content is in Russian. Some Wikias allow content in other languages than English, the others do not. It is unclear from the rules of NFW whether it is acceptable. Of course, I can translate some stuff just for the fun of sharing it, but it would be cooler if we can just migrate to NFW.
Another possible bit of contribution would be a game system with rules supporting Naruto-based role-play. The system is in a development state, we are play-testing it now. I'm still thinking about where to put it, having to choose between RPG, Naruto and Naruto Fanon wikias... --Radaghast 11:09, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
I see your points. May be there can be a disambligation (spelled it wrong, but I think you know what I mean) for different fanon versions of a particular canon character in a fanon world (ie. Naruto is the Sixth Hokage, Konohamaru is the Seventh, etc...), therefore making more room for people to work with canon in fanon. I meant to have NFW in English (with optional Japanese words plus translations in English), but neglected to add that. You can categorize your pages into something like "Russian language" or something. One of the rules of the Wikia is that all pages have to be categorized somehow. Also, I do not mind if you experiment on NFW. As long as you state that the page is being used for tests, I am okay with that. --Dubtiger 14:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Copy or Import/Export

I've got a bit of a big decision to make, so I could use your opinion at Forum:Attribution or Imports?. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion Aug 28, 2007 @ 01:40 (UTC)

Village Symbols

Radaghast, could you resize the village icons to be square? I'm creating a template to replace the Ninja-* templates which fits nicely into the titleicons area which is a better location for those symbols. But resizing the symbols to a proper size has strange effects when the icons are not square. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion Sep 2, 2007 @ 23:23 (UTC)

I'll try to do what I can. The problem is that originally the logos were not designed to be square. Instead, they were designed to look neat on a forehead protector! ;) Which basically means they all have fixed height but varying width. I'll try to play around to see what's the best way to standardise 'em. --Radaghast 23:58, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Done. I've also redesigned some of them slightly to get better images, and updated the Akatsuki logo as well. --Radaghast 10:42, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
^_^ thanks... heh, though it looks like you did more... I was only meaning the sizes. I should have been more specific. I was actually asking for them just to be padded so that the images have a square size. ^_^ the aspect ratio of the content inside didn't matter. Lol, but good job anyways. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion Sep 3, 2007 @ 21:54 (UTC)

Noicon SVGs

Hey, Radaghast. Can you help me fix up my Image:Kekkei Genkai-Noicon.svg and Image:Clan-Noicon.svg icons. The text wrapping is messed up in the rendered version but not the one I'm working on. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion Nov 24, 2007 @ 15:01 (UTC)

Fixed! The trick is that different SVG renderers can really do different and unpredictably weird stuff when it comes to fonts. Hence, if you want compatibility, always convert text to curves (Shift+Ctrl+C in Inkscape, right mouse click + "create outlines" in Illustrator) before saving/exporting. After that you won't be able to edit the text, so keep the backup in case you plan to return to that file. --Radaghast 18:32, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
