The manga has not been officially translated. You are incorrect in saying that "Sage" is the correct term, what you have read is an unofficial fan translation.

We get dozens of users coming here with the same "the manga says this" who cite the info from a scanalation (It's even worse with Soul Eater) and we're talking about relatively recent chapters I wasn't even aware were translated yet, so when someone just jumps in with a comment in that category the response is normally going to be to assume they are coming from the scanalation like 90% of the comments do. When you jump in with a new piece of info from the manga it's best to directly state it came from the viz translation. As for the "Hermit makes Naruto sound like a geezer" it's out of place and doesn't have much bearing.
