Narutopedia ranks

When this page was created the ninja ranks in the series was adopted to wiki ranks. There could be people with the rank of Academy student to Jonin (admin/syops) and of course a Kage. However the idea was dropped some time ago (my first job as admin, removing all the pages about the old ranks), since only Tokubetsu Jonin (rollback) and Jonin (syops) was put to use. However some people go by the old system, unless the are trying to make fan profiles. Jacce 18:57, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Actually the real reason I had the ranks removed was because they were causing to much trouble. Users started trying to game the system and were treating the "ranks" (which were nothing but fun aliases for MediaWiki permission flags) as status symbols and were asking "How can I move up a /rank/?", "Can you setup some sort of 'Chunin Exam'?" which is not the reason they were created in the first place. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Mar 15, 2009 @ 13:05 (UTC)
Things like User talk:Dantman/Archive 3#Make a Chunin Exam for this Narutopedia? and User talk:Dantman/Archive 4#Selfish/kinda rude question :D kept popping up. People were treating permission flags like a social status symbol and trying to turn contributing to the wiki into a big game. Permission flags have never been about any sort of social status, if someone has shown they can be responsible with it, and it would be useful to the wiki for them to have the flag then I throw a permission flag out. This doesn't change any sort of social status of the user on the wiki. People are supposed to be contributing to the wiki for the sake of improving it. If people are contributing just to get higher social ranks or permissions they aren't really helping out, they're just turning work on improving the wiki into a game. None of the people who ever made these kind of comments really helped out the wiki as much as other users actually did. The users who have contributed the most to the wiki never bothered with that kind of stuff. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Mar 15, 2009 @ 13:54 (UTC)
