Sarada is excited; as a reward for scoring the highest on her year's chunin aptitude tests, she is given one month's worth of training and teaching at the feet of the current Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki. At the end of the month, she'll demonstrate what she has learned in an exhibition match with the Hokage himself.
They train through the month, at times joined by prior Hokage Kakashi, and when they have finished, Sarada is saddened that she has failed to properly grasp the Wind techniques that Naruto spent the entire time trying to teach her. She fears that she will look like a moron in front of everyone for learning nothing, especially when she is informed by Kakashi that her father, Sasuke, learned his Lightning techniques in a short period.
The day of the exhibition arrives, and Naruto is informed in his office; sensory ninja have detected an anomaly on the outskirts of the village. Naruto enters Sage Mode and, to his shock, believes that it is an old foe's chakra that he is sensing. Donning his Hokage cloak and leaving alone, he asks Shikamaru to take his place in the battle.
Shikamaru arrives at the arena and sees Kakashi, who is conversing with Sasuke. He tells them that Naruto detected the presence of Nagato on the outskirts of the village and left to investigate. Sasuke, concerned, tells them that he will assist the Seventh; Kakashi, realizing that Shikamaru has no desire to battle in the exhibition match, steps up and kindly walks Sarada out to duel, telling her to do her best and remember what she learned.
The battle begins; Sarada shows great promise for a chunin, and lithely bounds around the arena, throwing kunai, using explosive tags, whatever she can, though Kakashi's immense experience proves too much and she's unable to land a blow. She begins forming hand signs, and the crowd prepares for an explosion!... but the jutsu fails, and instead of using a powerful Wind jutsu issues a low-level gust. Her nerves are getting to her; Kakashi's on the move, using Shadow Clones, each one weaving a different element, water, fire, lightning...
Sarada is beginning to panic; the great Uchiha name is beginning to look silly in front of everyone, and it's all her fault.
The side of the arena explodes; shinobi fly outwards. Coming over the top of the arena wall are hundreds of dark cloaked shinobi, all with the tell-tell darkened eyes of Edo Tensei. Sarada hears Shikamaru identifying them: Nagato, Konan, Deidara, past Mizukage, past Raikage, and at the front, Obito Uchiha. Who summoned these Edo Tensei? And how?
Kakashi, caught off guard and winded from his battle, is impaled by a chakra rod thrown by Obito himself. Where are Naruto and Sasuke...? Were they defeated?? In Obito's hand he is carrying Sasuke's bloody sword, and when Sarada sees this, her heart lurches.
Kakashi is unmoving on the battlefield; Sarada alone is beside him as Edo Tensei targets move in. Sarada feels her eyes shifting and rippling, and as enemies draw nearer, her mother's voice screaming her name in the distance, a golden rib cage surrounds her, giant skeletal arms emerging out from the sides. As if second nature, she moves herself to stand over Kakashi, who says to himself, "Susanoo...??"
Sarada makes the same hand signs as before, the one she failed at, and screams "Fūton! Renkūdan!" Air bullets, larger in size than usual thanks to her Susanoo, rip across the battlefield and slam into the attackers...
