  • If both Kakashi and Guy are the same age and supposedly born the same year then how did Kakashi become Chunin at 6 when Guy only became a Genin at 7, and they both fought each other in the Chunin exam where Kakashi became a Chunin Is this another timeline hole

    • Clearly this proves that Kakashi becoming chunin at 6 years old was clearly retconned. As all new materials depict him being about the same age as everyone else during his younger years and in the chunin exams. Him becoming a genin at 5 and a chunin at 6 doesn't even make sense when even greater prodigies such as Minato became a genin at 10 and Itachi became one at 7 and didn't become a chunin until 10 years old. And even with the sharingan he got from Obito, both Minato and Itachi still outclass him. Logically, it was all definitely retconned.

    • It was retconned. Anko was 7 at the Chunin exams that Kakashi(9) became a Chunin in, as he became Chunin before Gai(9) and Obito(9), Hayate was 6 at that time, Raido was 13, Genma was 11, Ebisu was 11, Aoba was 12, Ibiki was 10, Asuma and Kurenai were 10.

    • There's nothing retconned or anything, it's simply a timeline mistake.

    • The fourth databook still states Kakashi's chunin exam happened when he was 6. Seeing as the graduation dates were removed from said book, maybe we are now to believe they were all 6 at the time. Doesn't help Hayate and Anko though. All of the jonin knowing one another since childhood does feel really forced though, considering Kurenai needed to ask who Ibiki was back in Part 1.

    • The fourth databook effed up half of the dates it gives. I wouldn't trust it that much. For character and technique names, it was very welcomed, but for its overall information and timeline stuff, I'd like to see it burn. Blessing and a curse, so to speak.

Yeah, agreed. It did nothing to correct any existing errors (except Itachi and Orochimaru I guess) and even added a few new ones like Yahiko's age and the worst of all, Tobirama dying only 31 years ago when the Sannin were already adults. It even considers all of the events of Part 1, including the battle with Haku to be "4 years ago" but Hiruzen's fight with the dead Hokage to be "5 years ago". I really hope we get a future guidebook with a comprehensive timeline (like Dragon Ball's Daizenshuu 7, for example), so this stuff can finally be put to rest.

    • Well, according to the source of the databook's names, there should still be two left to be release. I could imagine a back-to-back release, since the whole series easily fits two databooks. One could be for techniques, the other for characters and the timeline or so.

But well, that's just wishful thinking.

    • Hmm so only certain things in DB4 can be used in reality anyways.
