  • While I don't consider his attempts to save Konoha a total failure or poorly executed as Itachi's I feel that he didn't need to kill himself and could have told Hiruzen that Danzo took his Sharingan.

    • Yeah, unless I'm missing something or forgot something. I don't see why he couldn't have done that.

    • If he told Hiruzen the truth, there'd be a risk of the news being leaked to the Uchiha clan or if he returned back to his clan with a missing eye, they probably would of assumed Konoha was behind it and immediately provoke them into rebelling against the village. His death was necessary to temporally protect both the village and the Uchiha.

Pretty much. More than likely, Shisui realized that Danzo's methods, while amoral and brutal, were still in the interests of the village. And even if Shisui survived long enough to tell the Konoha higher-ups, Danzo would have had him eliminated soon after anyway.

    • I don't see why Shisui couldn't have simply gone into hiding rather than killing himself, since there's no indication in that scene that he had been mortally wounded during his altercation with Danzō. Personally, I get the impression that Shisui's death seemed so unnecessary because he was said to have died hundreds of chapters before Kishimoto actually thought up the exact scenario that resulted in his death. It's the same thing that happened with Minato. We had been told since chapter 1 that he died during the Nine-Tails' attack, so when it came time to actually depict that event, there had to be some reason for him to heroically sacrifice himself, even if it ended up being something as trivial as sealing away only half of the Nine-Tails' chakra. When Kushina says what the audience may be thinking and asks why he would do that his own son, the tailed beast balance is given as an attempt at justification.

Honestly, both suicidal deaths would have felt more justified if Shisui and Minato had just suffered mortal injuries beforehand.

If Shisui went into hiding he'd soon be hunted down by Danzo for the other eye

    • Hiruzen is just dumb that he didn’t know Danzo’s true colours. If Shisui would’ve told Danzo that he stole his other eye,it would be leaked to the Uchiha and the Uchiha would resent the leaf village more and therefore,he committed suicided. He also entrusts everything to Itachi and he did it perfectly however Sasuke became a rogue ninja at the news of Itachi’s death. Itachi’s attempts at saving Konoha were very good methods as it was the only way. Danzo didn’t do much to help Konoha at all. Danzo hated Hiruzen at the moment when Tobirama says that Hiruzen will be the next Hokage therefore Danzo envies him. If you don’t remember,it’s just the moment where Tobirama sacrifices himself and becomes the decoy to the 20 Amegakure people. Itachi’s plan to save Konoha were better than Danzo’s strategies.
