I wasn't sure where to put this, so forgive me if it's in the wrong place.
Anyway, I was very much dissatisfied with how Kishimoto handled the origins and descent of the Great Dojutsu. It wasn't too bad at first- Kaguya seemingly had the Rinnegan and the Byakugan; Hagaromo got the former, while Hamura got the latter; and Hagaromo passed down the Rinnegan to Indra, although it devolved in the process to the Sharingan, with Indra later awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan.
But then, seemingly at random, Kaguya was given the "Rinne Sharingan", which apparently had all the powers of both its namesakes, and was diluted to the Rinnegan in Hagaromo, but then became the Sharingan in Indra- expressing roughly half of its power in her son, and the other half in her grandson. To make things even more confusing (at least for me), when Sasuke later awakened his Rinnegan, it behaved more like the Rinne Sharingan- it had tomoe, and possessed both Rinnegan and Sharingan abilities- but was referred to as a Rinnegan.
While not technically a huge issue, it was also strange to me that the Byakugan manifested in Kaguya in apparently its current form, and didn't seem to dilute or change after being passed to Hamura onwards. Why did the Rinne Sharingan split into two dojutsu, manifest only one half in Hagaromo, another half in Indra, and have both halves change and distort so much, but the Byakugan seemed to stay wholly intact, and if it did change, changed very little?
To me, the "Rinne Sharingan", at least as it was used here, seems completely unnecessary, and it only serves to complicate things. So, I came up with an alternative descent for the Great Dojutsu. This is, of course, fanfiction that contradicts the official canon, so make of it what you will, but I thought I'd see what other people think. I also made none of the images showcased below, and they're just images I was able to find that illustrate more or less what I had in mind.
First off, Kaguya eats the Chakra Fruit, thus becoming the progenitor of chakra. In doing so, she awakens what I call the "Gōkeigan" (meaning "total eye"). This gives Kaguya all the powers of the Byakugan (and its related dojutsu I cover below) and Rinnegan (the latter also encompassing the Sharingan's abilities as well).
From there, Kaguya gives birth to Hagaromo and Hamura. This splits the power of the Gōkeigan between them, with Hamura getting what I call the "Pārugan" (meaning "pearl eye"), which his descendant Tōneri also has:
And Hagaromo getting the Rinnegan:
Hamura would later have descendants, some, of course, being the Hyuga clan. In them, the Pārugan was diluted, giving us the familiar Byakugan:
Meanwhile, Hagaromo of course fathered Asura and Indra, with the Rinnegan being diluted in the latter to become the Sharingan:
Indra and other Uchiha would, of course, also advance the Sharingan into its Mangekyo and Eternal Mangekyo forms.
Over time, knowledge of the Gōkeigan and Pārugan faded, with only the Byakugan, Rinnegan, and Sharingan- the "Three" Great Dojutsu- being remembered.
Thoughts?
