Still angered from Sasuke's death, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's chakra explodes from Naruto, giving him the power to defeat Haku. Just as he is about to deliver the final blow he hesitates, seeing that Haku is actually the boy he met in the forest. Kakashi finally finds Zabuza in the mist, using ninja dogs to track him down. Kakashi introduces Zabuza to his "One and only original technique" The Lightning Blade! Just as Kakashi is about to finish Zabuza and Naruto is about to finish Haku, Haku jumps in front of the lightning blade and takes the hit, dying in the process. Zabuza takes this opportunity to try and kill Kakashi but Kakashi manages to dodge. As the battle progresses it becomes apparent Zabuza is no match for Kakashi, Kakashi having broken both of Zabuza's arms. Gato arrives with all his men and they try and kill Zabuza, Zabuza however, manages to kill Gato before he dies. Naruto and the rest of Team 7 but Zabuza and Haku to rest. The bridge now finally completed has been named the Great Naruto Bridge, to give hope to the Land of Waves.
When they return to Konohagakure, Konohamaru is attacked by some ninja from a different village. Sasuke arrives and saves Konohamaru, much to the displeasure of Naruto. Just as the mysterious sound ninja is about to attack Sasuke, a guy carrying a gourd appears. He stops the guy and introduces himself as Gaara of the desert. They soon find out the sand ninja are in Konoha for the Chunin Exams. The next day they meet Kakashi to find out he has recommended them all for the Chunin exams. When they go to register Sasuke gets into a fight with someone, but a man known as Rock Lee manages to stop his kick, to the surprise of Sasuke. Later as they are headed to registration Rock Lee follows Sasuke and challenges him to a match.
