The gatekeeper was a giant crab that served as the guardian of the Moon's entrance.

Appearance

Though resembling a normal crab, its size was very monstrous. It had red colour exoskeleton with some yellow-blue stripes in its legs and pincers. It had eight legs and two pincers, which very enormous. It appeared very dark inside of its mouth and have many sharp teeth. It also had whitish crown-like structure in its head.

Personality

The crab was both very dutiful and hostile in nature, attacking anyone or anything that came near the entrance of the Moon, except Toneri's puppets and presumably the Ōtsutsuki clan members.

Abilities

This crab was able to use Water Release techniques such as the Water Release: Wild Water Wave technique. It also mastered a degree of Yin Release Genjutsu techniques, as it was capable to produce a genjutsu trap. Its enormous pincers was capable to shred humans into pieces. It was also very durable seeing as it was armoured, making it very hard to kill.

The crab suddenly appeared from beneath the cavern sediment when Shikamaru and Sai disussed about who guard the passageway and the bubble-like substance which capable to trap any person in powerful genjutsu. Because its attack manouvres, this made Shikamaru, Sai, and Sakura unable to defeat the crab. Later, via hard efforts, they managed to defeat it. It was later killed by Sakura's punch its upper carapace, crushed it and destroyed its inner organs, expelling large amount of yellow juice-like disgusting substance.
