To form the attack, the user must gather both positive black chakra, and negative white chakra, then shape it into a sphere. Some jinchūriki are shown using Tailed Beast Balls in atypical ways. As the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki, Obito Uchiha is able to form multiple Tailed Beast Balls at once via a tree he creates, each of which can fire in a different direction. Naruto, when using his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, can form a Tailed Beast Ball with his hands, similar to how he makes the Rasengan. He can also add natural energy to his Tailed Beast Balls, making them more powerful, while also allowing them to be used against Truth-Seeking Balls. In the anime, Sora uses an entirely white Tailed Beast Ball while transformed under the influence of the Nine-Tails' chakra.
Kurama's proficiency and power with the Tailed Beast Ball allowed it to 'supercharge' it, making one several times its own size, even when Naruto took most of his power away. It is the only tailed beast besides the Ten-Tails who can accomplish this feat on its own, and later taught Naruto this skill to use in his Tailed Beast Mode. When used by the Ten-Tails in its mature form, its Tailed Beast Ball took on a conical shape, and upon impact was able to destroy an entire city some distance away, create massive tidal waves when impacting the ocean, as well as destroy entire mountain ranges and the explosions could be seen from extremely far away. When used by Obito, in his unique jinchūriki form, he summons a tree with many flower-like extensions on them; forming the ball in front of each flower.

When used by Naruto while in the human form of his Tailed Beast Mode, Naruto holds his hands out to form the ball with or without Kurama being fully manifested. Like Kurama, he can also create a 'supercharged' Tailed Beast Ball as strong as a collaborated one from five Tailed Beasts with ease and swiftness. Even when Kurama is partially manifested, Naruto can create a Tailed Beast Ball the size of Gyūki extremely quickly. After Kurama permits Naruto to use Sage Mode while also in Tailed Beast Mode, Naruto learns to mix natural energy with the Tailed Beast Ball, making it effective against Obito's ninjutsu-nullifying technique as well as making it stronger due to Sage Mode's ninjutsu-enhancing abilities, and its strong enough to break through Obito Uchiha's sphere. Minato can also perform the Tailed Beast Ball while fully transformed.

Senjutsu Influence
Utilisation of senjutsu chakra has been shown to drastically improve the Tailed Beast Ball. Naruto first created this in his Tailed Beast Sage Mode in the battle against Obito, and again while using his Six Paths Sage Mode in his clash with Sasuke.

This article is about the technique. For the chapter, see The Tailed Beast Ball.

The Tailed Beast Ball is the ultimate technique of a tailed beast. Jinchūriki can also use Tailed Beast Balls when transformed.

Overview

Bijudama 1

The gathered positive and negative chakra.

Tailed Beast Balls are made from an 8:2 ratio of positive black chakra (+の黒チャクラ, purasu no kuro chakura) and negative white chakra (−の白チャクラ, mainasu no shiro chakura).[2] Users must gather and balance this chakra in their mouths, shape it into a sphere (or a conical shape in the case of the Ten-Tails), and then fire it at their target; Gyūki likens this to vomiting.[3] Most users fire their Tailed Beast Balls as-is, while others may consume the ball and fire it from their mouth as a beam. Gyūki is even shown doing something in between, not consuming its Tailed Beast Ball yet still firing it out in a wave.[4] There is no limit to how much chakra can be put into a Tailed Beast Ball so long as the 8:2 ratio is maintained: on one occasion, Kurama pours almost all of its chakra into a Tailed Beast Ball, making the ball many times larger than itself;[5] on another occasion, five tailed beasts combine their Tailed Beast Balls into a single large one.[6]

Tailed Beast Balls are incredibly dense, such that, when a version 2 Naruto Uzumaki consumes one, he starts sinking into the ground due to the increased weight.[7] Despite how heavy they are, they travel rapidly once fired, enough to hit a target several countries away in only a few moments.[8] Tailed Beast Balls are very destructive, creating explosions that are visible from far away and that vaporise almost everything in the blast area.[9] The extent of the damage is dependent upon how the ball is fired and how much chakra it has, but at its "standard" size it is enough to destroy mountains.[10] Tailed Beast Balls are comparatively weaker if a jinchūriki uses one without entering their Tailed Beast Mode, yet it is still enough to represent a serious threat to people and infrastructure.[11]

Some jinchūriki are shown using Tailed Beast Balls in atypical ways. As the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki, Obito Uchiha is able to form multiple Tailed Beast Balls at once via a tree he creates, each of which can fire in a different direction.[12] Naruto, when using his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, can form a Tailed Beast Ball with his hands, similar to how he makes the Rasengan.[13] He can also add natural energy to his Tailed Beast Balls, making them more powerful,[14] while also allowing them to be used against Truth-Seeking Balls.[15] In the anime, Sora uses an entirely white Tailed Beast Ball while transformed under the influence of the Nine-Tails' chakra.[16]

  • Minato Namikaze based the Rasengan off of the Tailed Beast Ball. Killer B observes that the process for forming a Rasengan is exactly the same as forming a Tailed Beast Ball, with its chakra rotation acting as a substitute for the tailed beast form.[2]
  • In the manga, the Tailed Beast Ball is formed from positive black chakra and negative white chakra, and the completed ball is black.[17] In the anime, it is formed from positive blue chakra and negative red chakra, and the completed ball is purple.[18] In some instances, it is depicted taking on a red colour upon being fired.[19]
    • In J-Stars Victory VS, Naruto's Tailed Beast Ball uses the manga's colour scheme, but glows yellow upon being fired.
  • Shukaku is the only tailed beast not seen using a Tailed Beast Ball in the manga. However, it does so in an anime-only dream world created by the Infinite Tsukuyomi.[20]
