According to Sakon and Ukon, this technique boasts an ultimate defence and the fact that Kiba Inuzuka and Akamaru managed to dent it was no small feat. In the anime, this gate also possesses offensive capabilities, able to launch a giant swarm of blades at the opponent, though launching too many of them near is base will cripple its foundation and this the gate will collapse.[2] With enough mastery over this technique, the user can use it or its stronger variations without the need for hand seals.
Trivia
- The summoned Rashōmon is based off the main gate of old Kyōto with the demonic face inspired by the legend that Kyōto's Rashōmon was the home of an oni named Ibaraki-dōji.
- This technique is used offensively in the video games, summoning the gate directly beneath the target. Some versions open and drop the target into another dimension.
- When Sakon and Ukon first summoned it, they claimed that it was Orochimaru's strongest defence.[3]
