Shiin (死韻) is the leader of a group of bandits originating from the Land of Rice Fields, the same land where the Sound Village is located. It is revealed that there is a war currently taking place between the Land of the Rice Fields and some other nations, mainly due to the actions of Orochimaru. As a result, the area that the raided village is in is a de-militarized zone, ruled by no-one. The village has a gold mine a nearby mountain, which bandits sought, and raided the village to get to the mine.

Eventually, Shiin attacks the village. Having difficulty with getting past the wall and defeating the Konoha ninja, he resorts to using music to paralyse the Konoha ninja, but Menma counters the technique with his own music ninjustu. This allows Naruto to break Shiin's flute, plus Tenten and a Neji to defeat the raiders.

Shiin, realizing the battle to be lost, retreats to the dam at the river. He planned to flood the village to drown the villagers. The gold mine would be left unharmed. Shiin's plan to flood the village was stopped when Menma collapsed the mine.

In the end, Shiin is trying to escape but Naruto manages to catch with him and defeat him with Rasengan.

Trivia

  • Shiin's use of the flute is similar to Tayuya's. Even the music to bind the enemy is similar to the one that Tayuya plays.
  • Shiin's name is written with the kanji for death (, shi) and rhyme (, in).
  • Shiin's similar look to Orochimaru is one of an odd meaning - Orochimaru was the one the turned Shiin. Shiin had to become a bandit because of Orochimaru making Hidden Sound.
