The Shichiseiken (七星剣, Seven Star Sword) is a broad and flat sword that was said to have once belonged to the Sage of the Six Paths himself, and has later come to be revered as one of the Five Ultimate Treasures. The item itself exhibits the unusual ability to sever a person's soul from their body, once it has first been drawn out by the Kōkinjō, where the victims most frequently said word will be inscribed directly onto the blade. In order to prevent the afflicted individual from observing what word has been written, the sword can be folded down the middle, increasing the chances that they will be imprisoned within the Benihisago if the specific word is repeated. However, as with the other four treasures, its usage consumes an enormous amount of chakra, so much so that any normal human would die after only a short period.

The sword, along with four of the other treasures, was eventually gathered together by Kumogakure, where at least four of them came into the possession of the Gold and Silver Brothers. As the siblings possessed immense chakra reserves and would later gain a portion of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's chakra, they alone were capable of wielding the treasures without fatal repercussions. When not in use, Kinkaku had a tendency to store the weapon within himself, drawing it from his own mouth only when actually needed.

Trivia

  • The Shichiseiken is based on a tool from the Chinese classic "Journey to the West". In this story; there are two demon king brothers, known as the Great King Kinkaku (金角大王, Kinkaku-daiō) and the Great King Ginkaku (銀角大王, Ginkaku-daiō). The siblings possess five treasured tools, one of which is called the Seven Star Sword (七星剣).
  • The Shichiseiken also has connections to Taoism. Seven Stars (七星, Shichisei) is the name given to the constellation of Ursa Major in China and Japan. Swords based on Taoist thought and bearing this name are said to hold the power to crush evil and protect.
