The Parasitic Destruction Insect Technique is a practice exclusive to the Aburame clan. When children are born into the clan, their bodies are offered to insects to be used as a nest. Over the years, as the child grows up, they are instructed in the hiden jutsu of the clan, and learn how the insects may serve them in combat. Most Aburame are inhabited by kikaichū, but some members of the clan like Torune and Shikuro Aburame instead have nano-sized, venomous insects, a rare type of insect even within the Aburame clan.

Kikaichū have multiple uses. Though they normally attack in a swarm, Shino has used them as a shield to defend against Kankurō's attacks as well as use a swarm of them like a grappling hook to grab on to a log. In the anime filler arcs, they have demonstrated the ability to surround Shino to defend him against Yoroi's shockwave like Gaara's sand, form a bridge that can support multiple people, break down toxins, spell out messages, and engulf large buildings while searching for Gennō. Also, in the anime, they are unaffected by illusions, making them useful for detecting Genjutsu techniques.
