The Dance of the Shikigami is a technique used by Konan, which combines her talent for origami with ninjutsu.
By converting her chakra into paper, she can transform her entire body and clothing into a numerous amount of paper. She can control and shape her paper into weapons, such as shuriken and arrows; butterflies for spying; airplanes for quick transport; or clones. She can create paper wings on her back to fire paper at quick succession, which was capable of overpowering Jiraiya's Fire Release: Flame Bullet technique. She can hide explosive tags amongst her paper to add for a deadly surprise attack. She can also just cover her enemy in paper, restricting their movements and asphyxiating them. Her paper seems to be expendable, including paper converted from parts of her body.
In this form, she is weak to oil-based techniques, which causes her paper to stick. However, she does not hold the same weakness to water, as seen when Pain washed the oil off her with the Water Release: Wild Bubble Wave technique and when she fought Tobi in the rain. In this form, she is also somewhat resistant to fire, as seen when Jiraiya's Fire Release: Flame Bullet technique hardly damaged her, and can hover in the air.
Shikigami, when written as 式神, refers to a kind of spirit summoned to serve an onmyōji, a kind of sorcerer. These spirits are often depicted as changing into small pieces of paper once harmed or finished with their task. In the name of this technique, the kanji for "god" (神, kami) has been replaced with the kanji for "paper" (紙, kami), which is pronounced the same. This is likely done to emphasise the paper nature of Konan's shikigami and to point out the subtle difference between them and traditional shikigami.
Her ability to make wings out of paper mirrors her title as "God's Angel" in Amegakure.
