This article is about the manga chapter. For the character, see Obito Uchiha.

"Obito Uchiha" (うちはオビト, Uchiha Obito) is chapter 599 of the original Naruto manga.

Summary

Running into the Academy for his entrance exam, Obito Uchiha is stunned to see the huge crowd of young shinobi there, including a young Kakashi Hatake, Might Guy, and Rin. Briefly crossing paths with Kakashi, Obito believing he had arrived too late was given entrance papers by Rin. During the Chūnin Exams, after arriving late for the second round of the exam in the Forest of Death, alongside his team-mates Kakashi and Rin, Obito faces the opposing team of Guy, Ebisu and Genma Shiranui, losing against Guy within seconds while choking on the sweet that an elderly woman had given him. After training continuously and showing Rin his pride in the Uchiha clan and wish to be Hokage, Obito is pitted against Guy in a match, where he was quickly defeated despite his confidence in winning. Watching on as Kakashi defeats Guy in the next round, Obito appears to become jealous over Rin's support of Kakashi. After becoming a chūnin, Obito prepares to profess his love for Rin with flowers, only to become too embarrassed and soon overlooked by Kakashi's recent promotion to jōnin. In the present day, as the mask falls away from Tobi's face, Kakashi and Guy are shocked to see that Tobi is in fact their old comrade Obito Uchiha.

Trivia

  • In the panel after Obito sees off the old woman, his hair is light-coloured.
  • Despite the fact that Hiruzen Sarutobi was seemingly the Hokage at that time, the face of Minato Namikaze, who was a jōnin at that time, was on the Hokage Monument already.
  • Interestingly, the last page of the chapter is the only page to have dialogue which consisted of three words.
  • Another error consisting from timeline inconsistency, is in regards to many Academy students and Chūnin Exams participants being grouped and set against each other, despite many not yet being graduated from the Academy at that time, such as Asuma Sarutobi, Anko Mitarashi, Kurenai Yūhi, Hayate Gekkō and Might Guy, among others.
    • An additional related mistake is that Kakashi Hatake has been shown to be promoted into a chūnin with the whole Team Minato taking part in the exams, despite that he was stated to have been one since age of six, thus when his team-mates were still an Academy students.
