Konohamaru, Udon and Moegi interviewed Neji about Naruto's actions three years prior, he narrated when Konoha was invaded during the final Chūnin Exams. Neji tells them how Hinata was kidnapped by Kumo spectators, who saw the invasion as an opportunity to take the Byakugan. He is tasked by his grandfather, who failed to stop the captors, to rescue Hinata no matter what. Tenten accompanied him, saying it was too much for him, as well as Kiba and Akamaru, which claimed that Hinata is his team-mate. On their way, Neji stopped, and detects a trap. They were forced to leave Tenten to take care of the trap and continued their way. Hinata awakens and attacks one of her captors, and Kiba made the ambush, upon the ambush, Neji disguises himself as Kiba and takes out one of the captors. The other, knowing that his opponent is a Hyūga, fights him with long range attacks using Earth Release, not allowing Neji to use Gentle Fist techniques on him. When Neji is about to receive a fatal attack, Hiashiprotects him and proceeds to defeat the other captor. He said that Hinata is his precious daughter, and him, a memento of his late brother. Tenten was with Kō and Kiba apologises to Neji, which he accepted. Konohamaru, Udon and Moegi complain that the story has nothing do to with Naruto. Neji says that if Naruto hadn't beat him, this might never have happened, remembering that he chose to rescue Hinata because Naruto changed him.
The episode is likely the reference to the omake when Neji demanded to have his own special due to his lack of screentime.
The events of where Hinata was seen unconscious before she was kidnapped contradicts with the events of the original anime's storyline. Kiba was shown to have been knocked out unconscious by Kabuto in this episode as shown in the manga. In the anime, Hinata was already taken to the hospital before Kabuto knocked Kiba out unconscious later during Sasuke's match against Gaara.
