Natural energy (自然エネルギー, Shizen enerugī), is energy that can be collected from the atmosphere and terrain. If one can collect the natural energy from around them and combine and balance it with the spiritual and physical energy that makes up their chakra, they can become sages and enter the Sage Mode, allowing them to use senjutsu. This method can be taught by the inhabitants in one of these three legendary locations:
- Mount Myōboku (妙木山, Myōbokuzan);
- Dragon Earth Cave (龍地洞, Ryūchidō);
- Humid Bone Forest (湿骨林, Shikkotsurin).
An exception to this is Jūgo's clan, who have figured out a way to draw in natural energy, but are unable to control it, thus causing them to randomly go berserk. Orochimaru also figured out how to draw in natural energy thanks to Jūgo, but was also unable to use it properly, since he didn't possess the right body or recieve training in the arts of senjutsu.
There is also an anime-only technique of drawing upon natural energy, and then releasing it in a devastating attack developed by the Tsuchigumo clan.
