Twelve years before the start of the series, a powerful creature known as the Nine-tailed Demon Fox attacked the ninja village Konohagakure, killing many people. In response, the leader of Konohagakure's ninja military – the Fourth Hokage – sacrificed his life to seal the demon inside the newborn Naruto Uzumaki. Konohagakure, however, regarded Naruto as if he were the demon fox itself and mistreated him throughout most of his childhood. Now, Naruto is an adolescent ninja who constantly searches for recognition and dreams to become the Hokage, the ninja in his village who is acknowledged as the leader and the strongest of all. |

Sasuke questions himself on how strong he is. He remembers how Gaara insulted him; how weak he was and his lack of hatred. He envies Naruto, as Naruto is growing stronger than him. At some point, he receives a message saying that Itachi has came to the village and he was after Naruto. At the inn, he found Itachi, his partner and Naruto (but doesn't know what the two were doing there). Itachi greets his little brother. Sasuke says that he will kill Itachi, and Kisame notices his Sharingan, and asks Itachi who he was. Itachi simply answers that he was his little brother. Naruto is shocked on hearing this and realises that Itachi is the man Sasuke wants to kill. Read More... |
| Tenten is one of the main supporting characters of the series. She is a chūnin-level kunoichi of Konohagakure and member of Team Guy. It is revealed that when she joined Team Guy, she shared with the others her goal to become like Tsunade, one of the Sannin. It was during this time of trial and failure at becoming a medical-nin and more like Tsunade that she discovered her talent for fūinjutsu and thus developed her unique fighting style. |
| Countries operate as separate political entities and are presumably all monarchies, ruled by daimyō who stand equally in rank with the Hidden Villages' Kage. The Naruto world is similar to feudal Japan in many aspects; those countries maintain balance between themselves through nothing but power. Treaties are periodically signed, but they are generally not worth much more than the paper they are written on. Hidden Villages are parts of countries in which the country's ninja reside. Their leaders stand equally with the landlords ruling the countries they are a part of. A Hidden Village maintains its economy by training its citizens to be ninja from a young age and using them as manpower in various missions others would be willing to pay for, from weeding a garden for a single payment to receiving a constant budget from the country it resides in for being soldiers in case the country is involved in a war. |
