Keep in mind that these policies are ultimately guidelines. If it's found that a policy restricts something that the reason the policy was created didn't intend to restrict, then the policy should be changed.

Narutopedia's Signature policy is as follows. In order to identify users and attribute comments on talk pages, forum threads, and other discussion pages on Narutopedia, user comments must be signed by the user making the comments. Signatures in violation of the below policy are to be replaced with the {{unsigned|<USERNAME>}} template.

The standard signature on Wikia (produced via ~~~~ or ~~~ to provide a signature without the date) consists of a simple link to your user page. This can be customised in your preferences under "user profile." You can create a custom signature by checking the "Custom signature" box, and entering the MediaWiki code for your new signature in the "Nickname" field.

There are several restrictions you must follow when creating a customised signature:

  • You must include your actual user name in your signature.
  • You must have a link back to your userpage in your signature. And it is strongly recommended you also include a link back to your user talkpage.
  • You may have a maximum of two defined colors. The timestamp must remain black and does not count towards this limit.
  • You may only have one picture in your signature. This picture may not:
    • Be an animated .gif file.
    • Be more than 20 pixels in height (this limit exists for a reason)
    • Violate the Narutopedia Image policy.
  • Your signature must include the timestamp in all public usage. Additionally, the timestamp must include the following:
    • The timestamp must be in UTC format.
    • The timestamp must retain all information present in the default timestamp.
    • The timestamp month must not use a confusing date format such as MM/DD/YY and DD/MM/YY. English month names work, as well as ISO 8601 style dates.

The following are specifically prohibited:

  • Magic words such as {{PAGENAME}}.
  • Line-breaks (<br />).
  • Superscript and/or subscript nesting likethis.
  • Background and/or border colors.
