Naruto Uzumaki!! (うずまきナルト!!, Uzumaki Naruto!!) is chapter 1 of the Naruto manga.

Summary

Naruto Uzumaki is a prankster that is constantly causing trouble throughout Konohagakure. Much of the village dislikes him for it, but he enjoys the attention from when he is reprimanded, having no parents or friends.

Despite claiming to be a talented shinobi who will someday become Hokage, Naruto is incapable of performing basic techniques such as the Clone Technique. When this leaves him unable to graduate from the Ninja Academy, one of his instructors, Mizuki, tells him that if he can steal the Scroll of Seals and learn one of its secret technique, he will be allowed to continue on to the ranks of the ninja anyway.

After successfully stealing the scroll, Naruto is caught by another instructor, Iruka Umino. Surprised that Iruka found him so quickly, Naruto worries that he will now be unable to graduate. Realising that Naruto has been tricked, Iruka protects him from Mizuki's attack, Mizuki planning to take the scroll for himself.

Mizuki tells Naruto that he is alone in the world because he had the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox sealed within him on the day of his birth. He goes on to explains that the villagers hate him for the monster he contains and that Iruka, his parents having been killed by the Nine-Tails, must hate him the most. Iruka says this is not the case as he does not blame Naruto for the beast's actions, and in fact he sympathises with Naruto, having also grown up craving attention. Naruto believes him and uses his newly mastered Multiple Shadow Clone Technique to defeat Mizuki. Amazed by the complicated technique Naruto has learned, Iruka officially makes Naruto a ninja.
