Mangetsu Hōzuki (鬼灯満月, Hōzuki Mangetsu) is the elder brother of Suigetsu Hōzuki. Both Mangetsu and Suigetsu trained with the intention of becoming members of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist together. This dream acted as their motivation for them both to complete cruel missions day by day. However, their ambition was cut short by Mangetsu's premature death.[1]

- Mangetsu (満月) means "full moon".
- Hōzuki (鬼灯; Literally meaning "demon lantern" or "demon lamplight") is the Japanese word for the Chinese Lantern, a plant bearing fruit which resemble Chinese paper lanterns. It can also refer to the fruit of this plant. All known family names from Kirigakure are related to fruits: Momochi (桃地, "peach ground"), Hoshigaki (干柿, "dried persimmons"), and Chōjūrō (長十郎, "Asian Pear").
