The Lightning Release (雷遁, Raiton; English TV "Lightning Style") area of elemental Nature Transformation are techniques that allow the user to generate lightning by increasing the high frequency vibrations of their chakra.
Lightning Release techniques are fast-moving and cause not only electrical but piercing damage as well. Common to the ninja of Kumogakure, a Lightning Release jutsu is naturally strong against an Earth jutsu, and weak against Wind.
In addition, possibly along with Water, Lightning is presumably one of the components for the Storm Release nature.
