Sunagakure

The Land of Wind.

The Land of Wind (風の国, Kaze no Kuni) is one of the more prominent countries in the series. It is located to the south-west of the Land of Fire and borders the Land of Rivers and Amegakure. Its government leader is the Wind Daimyō. The country covers a vast realm, but is significantly composed of deserts and thus has little productivity.[1] Because there is very little rainfall throughout the year, the people of the country live in villages built on one of the desert's many oases. Despite the country's extremely harsh environment, it has a large population. Although they have warred with each other in the past, the Land of Wind is now on good terms with the Land of Fire, with a great deal of trade going on between the two countries.

The "Sand Dumpling" (砂団子, Suna Dango, English TV: Sand Dango) is a regional speciality of the Land of Wind. A unique characteristic of the Sand Dumpling is the soy flour, which is prepared especially to resemble sand. They apparently taste very good.[2]

Sunagakure

Sunagakure 2

Sunagakure.

Main article: Sunagakure Sunagakure (砂隠れの里, Sunagakure no Sato, literally meaning: Village Hidden by Sand) is the hidden village of the Land of Wind. As the village of one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries, Sunagakure has a Kage as its leader known as the Kazekage, of which there have been five in its history. Being surrounded by desert offers the village a natural deterrent against invasion, as few foreign powers would be willing to endure the sandstorms and water scarcity common to Suna.

Demon Desert

Demon Desert

The Demon Desert.

Main article: Demon Desert

The Demon Desert (魔の砂漠, Ma no Sabaku) is a desert located in the Land of Wind, off coast from Sunagakure. It serves as the stage for the second phase of the joint Chūnin Exams, and is roughly the equivalent to Konohagakure's Forest of Death, in size and in risk. In the centre of the desert lies the central tower, where the Suna Exploration Group and Kazekage monitor the exam from. It is also where all the genin candidates are to rendezvous after having the Heaven and Earth Scroll set.

Rōran

Rōran 3

Rōran's ruins.

Main article: Rōran Rōran (桜蘭, Rōran, Viz: Loran, literally meaning: Cherry Blossom Orchid) was a kingdom surrounded by a desert in the Land of Wind and the second setting of Naruto Shippūden the Movie: The Lost Tower after the ruins of Rōran when Mukade sends himself, Naruto Uzumaki, and Yamato back in time, 20 years into the past.
