Kekkei Tōta

Kekkei tōta (血継淘汰, literally meaning: a selection of blood inheritance" or "Bloodline Selection) is an advanced and very rare form of a kekkei genkai. The only known example is Dust Release, a combination of three different nature transformations - earth, wind, and fire.

Origin

gekkei Tota is explained by Shikamaru as being a very rare circumstance in Shinobi nature affinity inheritance. While x is a circumstance where a shinobi is born with a natural affinity to two nature types instead of one, with examples of this seen on occasion (e.g. Haiku who has both water and wind which can be combined to form ice release or yamato who under orochimaru's experimentation was given the natural affinity to both water and earth for wood release) Gekkei Tota is an example where a potential shinobi has a natural affinity to three nature types. According to Shikamaru, this is extremely rare with the only living example of Gekkai Tota being with Ōnoki.

examples

Currently in the series, only dust release has been revealed to be as an example of the combination of three chakra types. It us unknown if a gekkai tota can be activated by simply learning two other nature types through second nature, however this is presumed to be impossible on the basis of Gekkai being a bloodline trait.

Trivia

• It's possible that these techniques are not genetic, as Ōnoki stated that his master passed the secrets of Dust Release on to him, though it is unknown whether the two share any familial relations.
