Kakashi has just become a Jōnin and has received gifts from his captain and team-mates, but Obito says he has forgotten to get Kakashi a gift, even though Rin had reminded him earlier. Obito wants to surpass Kakashi, and says he will as soon as his Sharingan awakens. Minato says that their mission is to sneak into enemy lines and sabotage them by destroying the Kannabi Bridge. On the way there, Rin gets captured and Obito wants to go to her rescue, but Kakashi wants to go on with the mission. Kakashi wants to continue the mission because five years earlier, his father, Sakumo Hatake, abandoned an important mission to save his comrades, and was then hated as a result. Dishonoured, Sakumo fell into a deep depression and eventually, he committed suicide, which drove Kakashi to live strictly according to the Shinobi Rules. But Obito tells him that it is more important to care about his comrades than the mission itself.
