The Kōkinjō (幌金縄, Golden Canopy Rope) is a thick length of rope that was said to have once belonged to the Sage of the Six Paths himself, and has later come to be revered as one of the Treasured Tools of the Sage of the Six Paths. The item itself exhibits the unusual ability to draw out the soul of a person by merely establishing direct contact with the intended target. The item also generates an aura of chakra that can take the form of additional ropes, giving it a greater range to establish contact. However, as with the other four treasures, its usage consumes an enormous amount of chakra, so much so that any normal human would die after only a short period.

The rope, along with four of the other treasures, was eventually gathered together by Kumogakure, where at least four of them came into the possession of the Gold and Silver Brothers. As the siblings possessed immense chakra reserves and would later gain a portion of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's chakra, they alone were capable of wielding the treasures without fatal repercussions. Typically, Ginkaku would use the rope in order to tie the Benihisago around his neck for the purposes of transportation. However, when in combat, the cord is instead wrapped around an individual arm so that connecting with a victim can be accomplished easier.

Trivia

  • The Kōkinjō is based on a tool from the Chinese classic "Journey to the West". In this story; there are two demon king brothers, known as the Great King Kinkaku (金角大王, Kinkaku-daiō) and the Great King Ginkaku (銀角大王, Ginkaku-daiō). The siblings possess five treasured tools, one of which is called the Golden Canopy Rope (幌金縄).
