This help page overviews how to use the Narutopedia's LST (Labeled Section Transclusion) archiving system. Note that the system may not work 100%, however it should be reliable enough to work, it's just meant to simplify transclusion, if necessary you can do everything manually without using the sytem.

Step 1: Tagging

The first step is to tag the parts of the talkpage you want to archive. This is done by putting {{subst:StartArchive}} and {{subst:EndArchive}} at the start and end of the parts of the talkpage to archive.

For example for this talkpage:

==A==
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

==B==
bbbbbbbbbbbbb
bbbbbb

bbbbbbbbbbbbbb
bbbbbbbbbbb

==C==
ccccccccc

==D==
dddddddddddddd

To archive the B and C sections you'd place the tags as so:

==A==
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
{{subst:StartArchive}}
==B==
bbbbbbbbbbbbb
bbbbbb

bbbbbbbbbbbbbb
bbbbbbbbbbb

==C==
ccccccccc
{{subst:EndArchive}}
==D==
dddddddddddddd

And now you save the talkpage and move onto the next step.

Step 2: Create archive subpage

The next step now is to create the archive subpage. Traditionally you just append /Archive # to the end of the article name with # starting from 1 and incrementing. So for Talk:A the first archive would be created at Talk:A/Archive 1, then the next at Talk:A/Archive 2, and so on.

For your user talkpage generally your first archive should be located at User talk:USERNAME/Archive 1.

If the page has already been archived the archive list (floated to the top right of the page) will list all the archives, create a new article with the next available number.

When you have decided what nonexistant article to place the archive inside, open up the edit page for the new page and place this into the article:

{{subst:NewArchive}}

Save the article and the archive page has been created. It is suggested you preview before you save to make sure that the archive system is working, if you do not see the marked sections, then either the sections were marked wrong in the first section, or the system is not working for archiving this talkpage, in that case you should just archive that specific talkpage manually.

Step 3: Finish up the archive

To finish up archiving the talkpage itself needs to be cleaned up.

If this is the first time the page is being archived or the archive list has been removed at some point, then replace the entire page with:

{{subst:UnArchive}}

Otherwise when there is already an archive list on the page, then replace the entire page with:

{{subst:ReUnArchive}}

This will remove all tagged sections leaving only the untagged ones, and an {{ArchiveList}} if necessary.

You can finally save the talkpage and archiving should be complete.
