Though the head ninja's actions were horrific, his people demanded the life of his killer Hiashi as compensation as per agreement in the treaty they had signed. Not wanting to risk another war with Kumogakure, Konoha seemingly handed over Hiashi's corpse as a sign of good faith. But in reality, the corpse was Hizashi whose Byakugan was [[Hyūga Main Family's Juinjutsu|sealed away]] upon his death to ensure it was not obtained. Though war was averted, Hizashi's son Neji grew to hate the main house until learning of truth of his father's death nine years after the head ninja's death. By the time, as depicted in the anime, a pair Kumogakure ninja attempted to finish their fallen comrade's work started during the [[Invasion of Konoha]] and failed.
