"Hashirama and Madara — 2" is chapter 626 of the original Naruto manga.

Summary

Confused on what Madara said, Hashirama asks, as his senior and friend, what Madara meant as the "real dream". Madara dissuades Hashirama by telling him that his dream has no connection to the village. With this, Madara had abandoned the Hidden Leaf Village. However, as time passed, other clans have also imitated the village system thus creating and refining the Five Great Nations. Madara, trying to realize his dream, had set his sights on destroying the village he and Hashirama had fulfilled. With the continuation of the battle, Hashirama's gigantic wooden construct lunges its hands at the Susanoo-clad tailed beast causing it to lose its armor. Using the opportunity, Hashirama grabs the Nine-Tailed Fox and stops its rampage leaving the two shinobi to continue the fight. As both shinobi stood with the last of their strength, Madara had seemingly beaten Hashirama as he sliced through him stating that he was the only one to be able to reach the other side. Hashirama, knowing he has to protect what was precious to him, stabs Madara through his back thus revealing that Madara had defeated a wood clone. With this, Hashirama had finally defeated Madara and the destruction they caused would later be called the Valley of the End. As Hashirama ends his story, he states that a village is simply a place which maintains peace between the different clans and that shinobi are those who endure to achieve their goals and that depending on the goals they choose, shinobi can also change.
