The Hanabi Rescue Team was a highly specialised team from Konoha formed by the Sixth Hokage, Kakashi Hatake, under Shikamaru Nara's leadership to rescue the Hyūga clan's heiress, Hanabi Hyūga, after she was kidnapped by Toneri Ōtsutsuki. This team was also tasked in investigating Toneri's involvement with the falling moon and, if possible, avert the latter's plan and save the world.

The Hanabi Rescue Team's strength was very diverse. Shikamaru's genius intellect, Sai's Anbu abilities and ink transportation, Sakura Haruno's physical and medical abilities, Hinata Hyūga's unique taijutsu and tracking skills, and Naruto Uzumaki's ninjutsu, senjutsu, and tailed beast abilities, made the team extraordinarily effective.

After Hanabi is kidnapped, the team is formed and sent to locate her. Hinata eventually picks up the trail and locates her on the moon. Later, Hinata leaves to team to rescue her sister after being invited to her location by Toneri. Naruto and Shikamaru then lead an assault on the castle to rescue the Hyūga sisters. Sai and Sakura succeed in rescuing the comatose Hanabi while Naruto and Hinata retrieve her Byakugan from Toneri. After immediately restoring her eyesight, Hanabi is escorted back to Konoha completing the mission.

Stop the Moon Fall

Theorising Hanabi's captor to be the orchestrator of the falling moon, Kakashi tasks the Hanabi Rescue Team in investigate their involvement and stop the moon from falling on the Earth. After discovering that Toneri was behind said events, Hinata splinted off from the team, under Hamura Ōtsutsuki's orders, to destroy Toneri's source of power (as only she was capable of doing so). After initially failing, the combined effort of Naruto and Hinata succeed in destroying the Energy Vessel and removing Toneri's Tenseigan halting the moon's fall, hereby completing the mission.
