Gold Dust (砂金, Sakin, Literally meaning: Sand Gold), is the name of the weapon used by the Fourth Kazekage. Due to the diamagnetic properties of gold, small particles of it could be manipulated in a similar manner to that of the sand utilised by Shukaku's jinchūriki, through the Kazekage's Magnet Release kekkei genkai. When he used this ability dark rings appeared around his eyes that resembles the permanent ones around his son's own eyes.
In sufficient quantities, this gold dust could be fashioned into a diverse range of forms, with the most simplistic employed to merely attack or block an enemy. When used offensively, the Kazekage tended to form dense fast-moving surges that could range in size from narrow streams to colossal waves, intended to injure a target by violently crashing the compacted material into them. However, when used defensively, he instead created thick barricades of the dust that were durable enough to block even Gaara's Sand Hail technique. More complex structures could perform even more intricate tasks, such as observing an area from afar with the Third Eye.
In the past, this weapon was instrumental to the protection of Sunagakure during the Fourth Kazekage's tenure, by allowing him to effectively subdue Shukaku each time the beast went berserk. This was accomplished by layering his gold dust on top of the sand or mixing the gold dust into the sand controlled by the beast. Because gold is heavier than sand, it made it more difficult for the creature to manipulate the sand, thus slowing if not stopping its movement entirely.
- Gold isn't a magnetic metal like iron, nickel or cobalt. However, it is diamagnetic.
- Gold is approximately 7.3 times denser than silica, the main component of sand; and about 3.7 times denser than magnetite, the main component of Iron Sand.
- When Sunagakure was suffering dire economic strains, this gold dust was used as a valuable trade commodity of the village.
