So I have been recently looking around at the other naruto related wiki's on wikia, and noticed they use our content without credit (and one even ripped off leafninja). I have left a message on two of the active wiki's that use our but they believe a single disclaimer on the front page is sufficient to copy our content. For the narutofanon wiki, I understand that is has over 17k pages, and we regularly redirect our users there, so I guess I am fine with a single notice there and future additions to be given credit. I know we have had a couple problems in the past with other wikis copying our content and they have been since shut down. Anyways, any thoughts on the adequacies of a single disclaimer for copyright? — SimAnt 22:55, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

so is what your saying that other naruto wikias cannot have similar jutsu pages on it.--TrueShinobi (talk) 23:07, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

No, I'm saying word for word copies without credit are in violation of CC-BY-SA License. — SimAnt 23:11, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

Ah ok i was just wondering what you meant--TrueShinobi (talk) 23:15, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

I think we work too darn hard to have people create other Naruto-related wikis and just copy and paste our content. I mean it doesn't hurt us any, but it's the principle behind it. I had over 10 edits on one and had never been there before. I believe it's all right for fanon wikias since most of them (the 2 I vaguely remember) actually redirected to our wikia. Disclaimers are fine. I would prefer that it was in the articles themselves with maybe a link to the wikia/canon content but for the ones doing the same thing we are, I say we follow the protocol we were given in the past when this issue came up and have them closed down if they fail to adhere to Wiki's guidelines to doing stuff like that.--Cerez365Hyūga Symbol(talk) 01:07, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
I contacted wikia and asked if a sole disclaimer on the home page is sufficient, and was told that attribution is needed on every article. A few wiki's I have concerns with are: http://naruto-fandom.wikia.com/ which kept copying articles after I asked them to attribute, and http://narutoprofile.wikia.com/ which describes itself as an archive of narutopedia for a online game. As for narutofanon, they agreed to encourage users to credit our content which is a satisfactory sentiment given their size. — SimAnt 18:29, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
I'm also on Naruto Fandom wikia and how can we ask for permission to use Information from you what links do we put? --ROOT 根 (talk) 18:34, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
Asking to use content is not required, you are allowed to copy it as long as it follows the license. I tried to discuss it with your founder, yet your wiki admins have continued adding content without attribution beyond a insufficient main page notice after I asked. — SimAnt 18:57, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
A template linking to the original article (like the {{wikipedia}} that we use) should suffice.--~ UltimateSupreme 12:06, May 26, 2013 (UTC)
I see a representative from one of the wikis you linked is here and willing to work something out. I've always found that people respond to action when they don't heed words. If we can't get a response from them, then we escalate the issue.--Cerez365Hyūga Symbol(talk) 12:24, May 26, 2013 (UTC)

Wikia - doesn't seem to care about licensing/fair use

So - Venting anger at wikia. So I spent about a month using special:Contact to shut down a single users set of wikis who was mass importing single revisions our content without proper attribution. The user supposedly even had their wiki creation rights taken away. And now I have found out (on my own, no notification from wikia) that wikia has undeleted one of the wikis and the user has continued on his unattribution spree. I have sent a message back to wikia to ask why, but this situation irks me severely having 3k+ pages copied from us without proper attribution on user images or articles.

(Beyond that I have to even wonder how any fanfic/fanon or whatever source can validly use even manga/anime images even if they did provide a supposed fairuse rationale...), http://narutofanonuniverse.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Log?offset=20130915190958&type=import&month=&year= . So if someone besides me could "communicate" with wikia staff, it would make me feel better. — SimAnt 23:47, September 15, 2013 (UTC)

Is there nothing that we can do as a community to stop them from doing that since Wikia is else wise preoccupied? I can't understand for the life of me though why a fanon site would import canon content; it just seems defeatist to me.--Cerez365Hyūga Symbol(talk) 23:52, September 15, 2013 (UTC)
No the "policy" on their pages such as:
  • "Wikis which have no content, or remain inactive, or have a large overlap with another Wikia may be merged with another project, locked from editing, or closed completely"
  • "Simply importing their work for no other reason to have their work is something you would likely not appreciate if the shoe was on the other foot."

are all basically suggestions with wikias optional choice of following through. — SimAnt 00:03, September 16, 2013 (UTC)

Oh. Wel maybe if more of us complain they'll take action. Should we do the special contact from here or the copycat one? --Cerez365Hyūga Symbol(talk) 00:15, September 16, 2013 (UTC)

My suggestion would be to use Special:Contact here. That way they know we're the ones with the concern. ~ Ten Tailed Fox Yamagakure Symbol 00:43, September 16, 2013 (UTC)

Well, shut down and blocked for some period of time. I was told they started a new wiki on the same url after the creation expired... but the dates on pages in the changes I remember seeing yesterday disagree. — SimAnt 22:27, September 16, 2013 (UTC)
