So I know this wikia isn't really one for frivolities and unnecessary functions like blogs and chats but a couple weeks ago someone came here and changed the homepage to the new format that most other wikia have I think. Jacce told them to take it to the community but I haven't seen that user here since.

After seeing it I quite liked it and was wondering if the rest of the community would be interested in having it done like that granted that Simant gives the go-ahead on coding and it's not too much to maintain (like the latest episode and featured character— which looks like someone'll have to be editing the homepage every week). And we get to change some of those images ( '-') that the user put up there.

Yeah. After (months) of being stubborn, and taking a course in HCI (Human-Computer Interaction for those not in the know) a more user friendly homepage wouldn't be so bad. My issue is the featured character, article and the one about the episodes. If there was a way we could write a command into that that would automatically generate them, that'd be awesome. Also instead of featured characters I think the latest manga chapter would be better there. It's bland and very outdated, as though it's never been touched since 2005. The site would look more modern with a more modern homepage. --Speysider (Talk Page) 14:38, April 29, 2012 (UTC)

It actually hasn't been touched since about 2008 or so. The last time something new got put on it was the "Wikia's New Look" announcement which for the life of me I still haven't figured out how to remove.--TheUltimate3 ~Keeper of Lore~ 14:41, April 29, 2012 (UTC)

I realize that my say here (as one of the newer members) isn't that big, but I still would like to announce my opinion of this. I think the current homepage looks very bland and too "cold". It doesn't really invite the reader to take a peak in the wikia. The new suggested homepage looks very inviting and interesting! I don't think I would have started to read and watch Naruto if my first impression of Naruto was the homepage of this wikia. :P Derigar (talk) 14:45, April 29, 2012 (UTC)

@TU3 I think that may have been added by Wikia itself from a central control panel and everyone who still uses Monobook probably has it on any wiki so it's something you probably cannot remove. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I personally can't stand the new wikia skin. But it would seem that's a non-issue as of now and let's get back on the task at hand. Content should be simple.The large thing at will have Characters, Chapters, Episodes, and Jutsu.

Followed by a "Recent Chapter" and "Recent Episode" based on CrunchyRoll's schedule.

Not sure about anything else. As per usual with me, I would like to point to that lovable child of mine that grew up quickly and kicked the old man to the curb (lol) The Bleach Wiki's main page for an idea. We'd actually fit with the rest of the wikis in the Anime/Manga Hub by updating our Home Page to follow that format, if my random clicking across the hub is accurate. The one thing I'm not sure that should be done: featured articles. Will we simply pick random articles? Will we make a discussion group that decides which articles should be featured? Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 18:50, April 29, 2012 (UTC)

I know onepiece wikia uses a random one and that they have a cycle one. I was thinking we'd either replace the featured article with something "different" or use something similar to them and just have it choose them at random since I'm not sure if we want the problem of having to "discuss" what article should be featured.--Cerez365^™(talk) 19:43, April 29, 2012 (UTC)

Featured Articles

One piece's featured article doesn't revolve everyday, it changes any time the template is purged/edited. I previously worked with pulling random articles with smw, the problem is pulling the summaries from the articles or getting a character with practically no content. It would have to be a fixed list, like one piece, so you guys are going to need to make a large list of characters to put on it and later make/copy summaries for each. — SimAnt 20:28, April 30, 2012 (UTC)

Uh-oh, work lol. If we're not going to substitute it for something else then I think I'd be able to help with this but not until around the 8th of May when my undivided time can be put into it. I could assist I suppose. By the way, one thing I think needs to be covered is this: the default wiki page. Seeing as it's currently the Activity page, once the homepage is nice and proper, will that become the new default page? It would be preferable if we could set our own preference for which one we'd like to be our own personal default page, but I don't know whether or not that's possible within the constraints of wikia's software.
