The actual community here is going to need to discuss what's become of the forums here.

Do remember the core fact here. The Narutopedia is a wiki, a place to create content to document the Naruto series. Not a forum site for friends, idle chatter, and worse of all, topics with no positive effect on the wiki that only serve as a source of hostility and create unnecessary friction between users.

IMHO I'm honestly starting to see far to many users who come here, create a user account, come up with some profile page, and then either leave, or degrade the site with more pointless forum topics.

This is a wiki, not a forum site. There are dozens of naruto forums out there for users to do what they want. IMHO if someone wants to go to a forum, they should go there, not here, that is not the point of this site.

Any comments? Do note this is a Community discussion. What makes someone part of the community? Contributions, some small thing they've done to improve the wiki. Be it improving an article, fighting spam, contributing to discussion on how to improve parts of the wiki, etc...

And please, for god sake... Reply by editing the page and indenting your comments with a : instead of creating a new friggin section for every message. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion May 21, 2008 @ 05:17 (UTC)

My point exactly. For some reason, people keep coming up here and posting "What if?" posts on the forums which serve no purpose other than to listen to other people's response, not fix anything on the wikia.--TheUltimate3 18:27, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
People aren't even staying on topic, one talks about, putting important details from a part of the anime, and someone completely careless of topic says "Obito rocks!" or just randomness. I'm glad this was brought up. --Kakashi Namikaze 18:43, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
And I do notice a forumer around who acts hostilely towards other users (and most importantly actual contributors) very often, but never actually contributes to the wiki.
Now, as to what to actually do about this... I'm honesty thinking:
  • Delete every junk forum topic that is lying around.
  • Delete all userpages which were created by users who never contributed to the actual wiki, and basically just came to use it as a profile page.
  • Add another bit to the sitenotice for a bit on how the wiki is not a forum site.
  • Use a subst: template similar to Welcome to warn any future user trying to use the site as a forum site to take it elsewhere.
Any notes or comments on the individual points? ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion May 22, 2008 @ 07:23 (UTC)
Oh ya, and the same goes for any Talk: pages which people are using for irrelevant discussions. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion May 22, 2008 @ 07:24 (UTC)
Well to be fair, most of the Talk:Pages have been used to discuss Wiki related stuff. At the moment I don't see a problem with them. The Forums, at this point if they aren't related to wiki stuff I just say delete them, same witih the useless User Pages.--TheUltimate3 16:49, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
And so we're clear on whats useless and whats not, Look at my Userpages. All of them, are former Wiki articles that either should/can/is/ to become part of this Wikia. Keeping them will give us a good archive if anything where to happen to the articles. Whats not good is someone making their own little character in the User Page. --TheUltimate3 16:49, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, there is some merit to allowing editors to create a bit of a userpage with the infobox and such. But not any random person, and there should be a limit to how much one spends expanding and editing that page. ie: Shouldn't start spanning multiple pages, and we shouldn't be seeing multiple edits to it in the RC every day.
As for the talkpages, I'm refering to the various ones which actually were used for discussions about the character rather than their relation to the article, those ones can be killed. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion May 25, 2008 @ 19:37 (UTC)

Can't you make up a forum for all that useless junk?--Minato Uzumaki 18:13, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

1) Don't make a seperate section for comments. 2) While he could, they generate NOTHING for the wiki and has been shown to pretty much be a place where overzealous fans go to to speak on a soap box cause they know a REAL forum would probably mock them. Thats where the problem is.--TheUltimate3 18:16, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Already did. Remember, the "Naruto Discussion", I created that and moved all the non-wiki discussions there. However, it just ended up as a sespool of users who add absolutely nothing constructive to the wiki, spam up the RC with posts, and act in hostile non-wiki ways, when a place allows a user who doesn't contribute to the wiki, to insult actual contributors who are trying to help, it's degraded to far. This is not a forum site, nor has it ever been, this is a Wiki, first, foremost, and only. If someone wants to post in forums, then go to a forum site, not a wiki, that is not the reason the Narutopedia was created. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion May 27, 2008 @ 19:48 (UTC)
Heh, I remember one time when I said my wiki goal was to make Narutopedia the best fansite out there. I should correct myself and replace "fan" with "info" so it is like this: "My Goal: To help make Narutopedia the best Naruto Information Site out there."
Also in forums, how come I am seeing duplicate sections? There is a sections, then there is the exactly same content section below it? This is silliness. --Kakashi Namikaze 20:37, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
That would be people double-submitting the new section (ie: Leave a message) form. Unlike when using the edit form where double submitting saves the page twice, using the new section form creates two new sections in addition. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion May 27, 2008 @ 21:41 (UTC)

Um....Dantman

Why does everyone vandilize articles for no apparent reason...? Are they stupid or just pain retarded? (I know it must tick you off alot.) By the way,....what's a proxy vandile?

Yours Truely, --70.161.7.58 03:12, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Black Tom Boy Girl

Same reason you see spam on any forum. Just idiots who get on the computer and would rather try to use the internet to waste other peoples time rather than do something constructive. Or have some sort of unreasonable personal vendetta.
A proxy vandal is one who makes use of open proxy servers. Basically a proxy server masks your own IP address by forwarding web traffic through it. A proxy vandal is one who makes use of web proxies in order to change their IP address and evade bans after they vandalize. Nonetheless there are ways to stop them. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) current discussion Aug 30, 2008 @ 08:50 (UTC)

Oh..Okay...^_^!--70.161.7.58 23:37, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Black Tom Boy Girl
