A question for our readers, and our light editors... what kind of feature do you think could make the Narutopedia better?

Don't limit yourself to the limitations you there there are here, name a feature, any feature you think would improve the wiki. Whether it's a simple tweak, a change in the way the site is laid out you think would improve it, some better way of navigation, something in the sidebar that would make the wiki better, a better color scheme, a real forum, blog for announcements, fancier mainpage, store, watching naruto on-wiki, better location for infoboxes, anything...

Just hit Leave message and make a suggestion. (meta discussion about the post itself on the talkpage please. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Oct 4, 2010 @ 10:30 (UTC) 10:30, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

Lightbox

Is my dream of a link to a "lightbox" via a [[]] link possible? SimAnt 00:52, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

Possible Idea

A video of each song in the Naruto series. So on the Namikaze Satellite page we have the actually opening beneath the lyrics.

And maybe on each jutsu page a video of said character performing the jutsu? That way a user wouldn't have to answer's someone's question if he or she did said jutsu. --NejiHyugaRocks (talk)

I like Naruto well enough to check the wiki at least once a week, looking for recently updated wikis. I wonder if something could be done to show pages that have been updated.

For the above, create an account an add pages to your watchlist...AlienGamer (UserpageTalk) 18:11, October 9, 2010 (UTC)

Well for ideas for features and improvements, I would like to see articles on all four great shinobi world wars changed to look more like an actual war article from other wikis like world war two on wikipedia or the Clone Wars or the Galactic Civil War on Wookieepedia with belligerents, commanders, casualties, dates, locations, results and stuff like that of which you would see in a war article. I also think that the characters section could be reorganized in a way that is similar to the character section on the Bleach wiki page. And as for character articles themselves, I think that the content should have a relationship section and major battles section while the profile part of the character articles should have eye color, hair color, occupation, aliases, species and stuff like that. Also I think it would make more sense if characters from part one could have there profile pictures updated to there part two appearances or any appearances that involve recent outfit changes or a gallery section displaying the part one and two appearances and different outfits the characters have like casual civilian clothes or those coats that are worn in harsh whether conditions or just new outfits or the appearances of characters in their early youth and other pictures from both part one and part two. I also think this wiki should have a anime only filler arc filter for character articles of characters involved in filler arcs like the Bleach wiki page. I also think that this wiki should not include anime only filler jutsu into the characters jutsu profile unless it is an anime only filler jutsu that was added in a story arc that was from the original manga itself. These are my suggestions for how to make this wiki better and if any of these suggestions (hopefully all of them) are considered and used, I would really appreciate it.

By the way, I wrote the above text before I created an account here. My username is K9ofChaos.

I think i agree with the databook and what i means is we should give Tobi and Madara two separate pages.I know they are the same person but the Tobi personality is a little bit Unique and his VA/Seiyu are different from Madara's, and the same goes for their moves.

Voice Samples

Can We Add Voice Samples Like When You Are On A Characters Page like Killer Bee and his English Voice Actor is Reno Wilson So We Can Make A Voice Sample Of What Killer Bee Sounds Like When Reno Wilson Voices Him And For Hisao Egawa We Can Make A voice Sample Of Him Voicing Killer Bee In Japanese And For The Characters That Have Diffrent Types Of Voice Actors Voicing Them In Diffrent Langueages Like French Or Spanish We Can Do That Right t 01:15, October 21, 2010 (UTC)Naruto boy 24t 01:15, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

Family Trees

How about making a page on the family trees. This would make it easier to see who is connected to who and I think it would look sweet! —This unsigned comment was made by 216.68.84.5 (talkcontribs) .

Monobook

Since lot of people doesnt like new Oasis look, they might start using monobook. But in Monobook skin there is only little items in menu. Please some admin to look at MediaWiki:Sidebar and add few links, like list of Episodes... Characters and such... --TakeruDavis (talk) 10:16, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

A separate gallery?

Hey guys, I am new here but I have a lot of image stuff experience on some other wikis. So, I would like to share a thought here. Since, we have a lot (and I do mean A LOT) pictures in low quality and are in Jpg (jpg's quality is better in other things but when we're talking about jpgs on a wiki, it's an epic fail because the images with .jpg extensions have really itchy quality, no matter how much HQ er the image is. So, in order to manage the entire collection of the images, we should have a kind of gallery or something (a separate place/area for images) with certain uploading rules (not just summary or license policies but rules) and few admins (specifically for the images section so that he can moderate others). In this way, we can clean up our collection and have some really good pics and headers for our articles. Sorry, I am not a native English speaker so I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say here. Anyway, it's just a suggestion, hope you'll think about it. Thank you Adyniz (talk) 11:15, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

Renaming/Moving the episode/manga articles

Hey guys, I'm not so sure whether to create a new section or not but anyway... Don't you think that the episode and manga articles should be moved? I don't know if you guys realized or not but it's way way too hard to find the episode with the exact title. See the thing is, most of the people don't remember the title, they just remember the episode number like Naruto Shippuden episode 185 etc. So, can't we rename/move our articles number wise like Naruto Shippuden 185 or NS episode 185 or something like that you might wanna do. So, what do you other guys think? Adyniz (talk) 11:28, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

Episode titles do make the best page titles, we do however annotate pages with their episode number. Semantic Forms has a RunQuery page, so theoretically we could make a form to help find episodes by number. Or, people could just use a list. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Nov 12, 2010 @ 11:37 (UTC) 11:37, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
Or can't we use re-directs? It just clicked in my mind a minute ago, we can redirect the "Naruto Shippuden episode 185" name to that specific episode article. In this way, people can directly find what they want without going through some other articles. I think it's just easier. Adyniz (talk) 11:44, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
And the best part is, we don't have to move or rename anything. We just have redirect the episode numbers (which are not being used right now, anyway). In this way, we don't have to make any form or anything and I'm done :) Adyniz (talk) 11:56, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
A form might be a tiny bit complex, not that complected... But do note that redirecting episode numbers means we have to create hundreds of pages in order to do those redirects. And each new episode requires more than just the episode article to be created... We can do both of course. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Nov 12, 2010 @ 12:11 (UTC) 12:11, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
You're right though. Both things are fine and I'm thinking to make 2 redirects to each episode, i.e one redirect will be named as "Naruto Shippuden 001" (since we are in 3 digits episode, so it will be easier to stick on one pattern that is 3 digits) and the other one will be "Naruto Shippuden episode 1". So if you don't mind, will it be okay if I start working on episode redirects? Adyniz (talk) 13:40, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

Too much white

I decided to give one more try to new wikia skin. There is one problem - on small monitor whole page is spread from left to right with nothing but white background. I tried to make personal css and give main area some little opacity. It works just fine and I would love to suggest that as official skin-mod.

.WikiaPage {opacity: 0.9; filter: alpha(opacity=90); -moz-opacity: 0.9; -khtml-opacity: 0.9; }

I tried 0.8 (80), but then background was too strong, but with 9 its quite good...--TakeruDavis (talk) 03:56, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

I question whether Wikia's ToU would allow us to do that to the content area. Besides, Wikia's the one that caused the issue you describe, it's not really our place to try to fix what they broke. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Nov 14, 2010 @ 11:20 (UTC) 11:20, November 14, 2010 (UTC)
Also, there are two popup menu lines, where local menu (Articles, Local Policies...) is smaller and on only content background and almost unnoticeable because of bigger and high contrasting menu... but changing that might already be against ToU. Certainly if it was done serversided, globaly for every user. Especially this is great problem which should solve Wikia itself...
but at least we should ask, if we can change local menu font to bold or/and make it bigger or/and give it some background.--TakeruDavis (talk) 13:01, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

wikia

don't make new features and move from wikia.

i liked the old look waay better than the current one.

staying with wikia will ruin the wiki with ads.

move to a different domain like other wiki's are doing. —This unsigned comment was made by 76.92.121.71 (talkcontribs) .

Couldn't agree more. This is a very good site but the ads are the biggest problem and wikia's standard isn't THAT high. It will be great if this site is moved to a separate wiki. I say, go with it. Adyniz (talk) 13:14, November 21, 2010 (UTC)

The ability to write in-depth articles for each episode

I suggest that episode summaries be changed to include much more detail about the episode. I have tried to do this but have been told that only a short summary is allowed. This is an encyclopedia and thus we should be allowed to write as much information on the episode as possible, not just a small quick summary on what took place. I don't see the harm in doing so, as the website already has a disclaimer that the website contains spoilers. I hope this is taken into consideration and that, in the future, we be allowed to write in depth articles on each episode, not just a small summary.

The harm in doing so is that a detailed plot description is useless. The readers can get that from reading the actual chapters or watching the episodes. The articles should give a concise summary of what happened, or they become too long to read easily.
Now I could see the articles having both a short summary and a detailed plot description, but I'm not sure if that's desirable or even doable. —ShounenSuki (talk | contribs | translations) 10:14, December 1, 2010 (UTC)

Well ShounenSuki, anyone can do that with any show or book they read, they just need to read/watch it. What is the point of having a wiki then? From what I understand you are telling me, if people want information on Naruto, then they should read the entire manga to obtain it. But people come here for concise and organized information if they don't wish to watch the entire 20 minute show/read the manga. BTW, I really like that, DanTMan. ObiTobi. (talk) 10:36, December 4, 2010 (UTC)
The point of the wiki is the in-depth information on characters, jutsu, etc... that is what it was created for, they all have their own articles. Episode articles with summaries serve as a useful way of hunting down a specific episode you forgot the number or title for. Full details on every single thing that happened in the episode don't quite add much to the usefulness of that article. We're not here to replace the anime or manga, we're here to complement it, taking information from every episode and chapter and reorganizing it not chronologically by media but instead by topic, in a way you can't get the information just from watching an episode. ie: Rather than re-watching the entire anime and reading the entire manga just to get some info on the rasengan, you just read Rasengan. To be honest, other people already do episode descriptions elsewhere, they don't have too much value here. Though personally, meh... I don't really care that much about what happens to episode/chapter articles. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Dec 4, 2010 @ 11:41 (UTC) 11:41, December 4, 2010 (UTC)
I just always personally thought more was better. But I'm not going to argue the point anymore. ObiTobi. (talk) 19:50, December 4, 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't really arguing either side... I was just rejecting the idea that there is no point to the wiki if it doesn't have in-depth episode articles. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Dec 4, 2010 @ 19:52 (UTC) 19:52, December 4, 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't trying to say there was no point, episodes aren't the only articles available on this site. Most of the articles on this site are very detailed, what surprised me was that the episode articles were not as detailed. ObiTobi. (talk) 00:50, December 5, 2010 (UTC)

MULTIPLE SUGGESIONS

It is hard to make suggestions for a site that is designed essentially to only dish out information.

-That being said, I think it would be wise to (if you wish to increase traffic) add the actual scans to the site if possible.

-In addition to adding all of the scans, you could also add a feature in which each page of the scanlation has a detailed analysis of what is going on in the pictures and within the dialogue. There could even be click able links within the "Scanlation Extended Edition" if allowed. I dunno if the "copyright police" or whatever will do anything, but i have seen other sites hosting the entirety of the series with servers in the U.S without a problem.

-Simply adding more clickable pictures should also improve the site a bit. Because of the target audience of this manga, it should be taken into consideration that children are highly stimulated by images of their favorite characters. Simple idea, but it could potentially add more traffic to the site. no .gifs, because slow connections have ot be taken into consideration, and no high res images.

-Adding a forum(s), or channel(s)is actually not useful in this scenario. Spoilers would be abound, and people do get the versions of the manga even earlier than complete scanlations. This is not recommended.

I hope I could help :) —This unsigned comment was made by 24.193.253.14 (talkcontribs) .

Adding the scans is not an option. Too many copyright issues. If other sites don't have issues, it doesn't mean we'll have their luck. Viz and ShounenJump could easily sue or send cease and desist letters to any of them at any moment. We add images when it is fit. There no point in adding a ton of images to a small article as well. The purpose of this wiki is to inform, not to entertain. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 22:45, January 28, 2011 (UTC)
Hosting scans is copyright infringement, there is no valid enforceable fair use rationale for hosting full manga scans or scanalations here, it's flat out piracy. We already have an image policy image wise (we don't allow .gifs), and MW has built in thumbnailing so we do want higher-res images. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Jan 28, 2011 @ 23:40 (UTC) 23:40, January 28, 2011 (UTC)

Fights

Why don't we add a fights category to the wiki like in Bleach Wiki. Like this —This unsigned comment was made by Dogabeey (talkcontribs) .

Would this fight category include every little fight in the series(ex. Sasuke vs. Lee), or just the major ones? ~ Fmakck© (Images | contribs) 14:49, April 17, 2011 (UTC)
If it were to be based on what the Bleach wiki does, there would be an article for every imaginable face-off. Which I oppose. ~SnapperTo 18:30, April 17, 2011 (UTC)
