I've used this wiki for quite some time (but haven't really spoken out), but I was wondering whether we could have easy reference templates. It's quite tedious to write"<ref> ''Naruto'' chapter (chapter), page (page)</ref>", or databook or whatever, so maybe an easy reference template could do? I can create it, if you'd like. We already do, it is this in the text editor. — SimAnt 22:16, October 8, 2013 (UTC)
I mean we could have something like:{{cref|name="name"|1|2}}, and it would become a reference showing Naruto chapter 1, page 2 DinoTaur 22:37, October 8, 2013 (UTC)
I like the idea of a reference template, especially if it links to the wiki's page for the respective media. But a template that puts things in ref tags doesn't solve what I perceive to be a problem of the same chapter/episode being referenced multiple times in the same article. For example: Obito's article has eight separate references to chapter 603. Even if you eliminate the two sets of duplicate references, that's still six refs for the same thing.
I like what the Wikipedia character article does with referencing, where the superscript gives the actual media number. I made an example of that a while back which can be seen here (it only works for chapters at the moment). ~SnapperTo 00:24, October 9, 2013 (UTC)
If duplicate references is your problem, then its really very easy to fix.
I think wikipedia also uses some js to check citation errors. I haven't looked deeper into it yet.
If I am not wrong, your templates make use of semantic queries (one per ref). I am pretty much sure that ~100 queries on a page will put enough strain on wikia's servers for them to come running (Even if not, its too much cost for something very insignificant) ~ UltimateSupreme 02:11, October 9, 2013 (UTC)
The query load was something I was going to ask about. If that's an issue, use chapter x redirects instead. Same visual and fuctional outcome.
It's not duplicate refs that I perceive as a problem, it's similar refs that I perceive as a problem. Obito refs:
  1. Naruto chapter 603 (x2)
  2. Naruto chapter 603, page 14 (x2)
  3. Naruto chapter 603, pages 1-4
  4. Naruto chapter 603, pages 16-19
  5. Naruto chapter 603, page 15
  6. Naruto chapter 603, page 1
And I just don't see the point of it. ~SnapperTo 02:51, October 9, 2013 (UTC)
