Forums: Index Narutopedia Discussion Creation of stubs

The ongoing trend when a new chapter/episode comes out is that people rush to create it, creating it only with infobox and {{stub}}. This results in just the stub tag appearing on the homepage with bizarre links appearing on it (like to Talk:Narutopedia). So, this forum is to propose that articles for new chaps/episodes must not be created without a good full summary.--~UltimateSupreme 15:41, November 13, 2013 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. Jacce | Talk | Contributions 16:07, November 13, 2013 (UTC)

I agree. There's no need to be a contest to see who can create the article first, so I'm fine with this. ~ Ten Tailed Fox Yamagakure Symbol 17:07, November 13, 2013 (UTC)
I'm not against this because sometimes you do have person that just want to create a shell and leave others to fill it. But at the same time, I don't see how this can be enforced: If the article is created and then a sysop deletes it, then it becomes counterproductive. Honestly for me, who mostly does content, it is convenient to just come in and be able to add the content to the already-created article. Maybe we can just remove the stub tag, create a unique one for homepage articles, or else when the article is created they can add a one-liner can be added if the person doesn't intend to add content: eg copying the automatically generated first sentence "Track is chapter 655..." --Cerez365Hyūga Symbol(talk) 17:45, November 13, 2013 (UTC)
Shouldn't be difficult to create a simple filter for that; just set to warn. If they still pass, threaten on their talkpage. Obviously not a change that would happen in a weeks time.--~UltimateSupreme 18:13, November 13, 2013 (UTC)
I don't know how much wikia is able to do, but isn't there an option that includes the article only when it has a specific length in bytes? Seelentau 愛 18:21, November 13, 2013 (UTC)
Using that would mean, no article is displayed at all — A Hole in the Heart.--~UltimateSupreme 18:40, November 13, 2013 (UTC)
Good idea, but this will be impossible to enforce. People seem to do things on a "I must do it first!" basis, which helps nobody. All I can say is that it should be filtered, or at least the form should only work if text is actually going to be added and not just a page with an infobox and a stub tag on it. --Speysider Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | Channel 19:25, November 13, 2013 (UTC)
I honestly see nothing wrong with it appearing blank on the homepage. Hell in my opinion it appearing blank is like an invitation for someone to come in and make the article. You know. Free editing, corner stone of having a wiki.--TheUltimate3 Allied Shinobi Forces Symbol (talk) 20:10, November 13, 2013 (UTC)
The problem is: nobody does, until many hours have passed and it's almost always one of a select number of people. --Speysider Talk Page | My Image Uploads | Tabber Code | Channel 20:11, November 13, 2013 (UTC)
This is not something that should be enforced with a filter; a filter only prevents bad habits, it does nothing to fix them. If the same users are consistently creating articles without content, ask that they make an attempt. They don't need to write summaries as bloated as what are usually written, but they need to write something.
The creators of articles for the ten most recent chapters and episodes are:
  1. Shakhmoot - 10 articles
  2. SovanDara18 - 6 articles
  3. OmegaRasengan - 3 articles
  4. Lancevinzon - 1 article
To be fair, Shakhmoot and SovanDara18 do sometimes write summaries eventually. ~SnapperTo 21:14, November 13, 2013 (UTC)
