Based on the recent few chapters showing chakra chains being used to subjugate tailed beasts both in the real world and as a seal, and the fact that the jutsu was first seen used by an Uzumaki clan member (Tobi has a sharingan, knows an Uzumaki, and has encountered Kushina before) Shouldn't it be classified as a fuinjutsu? While it doesn't take the form of most other sealing ninjutsu, its primary purpose and use is the same, which is to bind, restrict, and/or seal away an opponent. And the fact that the Uzumaki are known for their strange and unusual sealing techniques, combined with the fact that the chains were used for the nine-tails, and at the moment 6 of the tailed beasts seals right now, and that Kushina was going to drag the nine-tails back into her using them, pretty much confirms that its a fuinjutsu.

I agree it's a sealing technique better not to speculate how Tobi has it since was not it all Kushina unique stuff due to her chakra or some Uzumaki jutsu ? --Elveonora (talk) 07:44, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

i'm not sure. you have to take into consideration that kushina was able to use it in the real world, also for now too little is known about the technique. though i think a mentioning about it being used to suppress tailed beasts would be good.98.26.243.10 (talk) 08:15, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Kushina's chakra was special, no one ever said the chains were though.--Cerez365Hyūga Symbol 14:18, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

most seals are used in the real world, so what does that have to do with anything?—This unsigned comment was made by 76.16.124.125 (talkcontribs) .

Uh, ok o.O? Not too sure what you mean by that... but just because she used her chakra to suppress the beast/ chain him up in her "mind" I suppose, doesn't mean that the chains themselves are a fūinjutsu— they're just being used in a fūinjutsu. It's like saying that the gates that Kurama is behind or the water in both his and Son's "sealed place/thingy" is the technique itself. Also I don't know where that conspiracy bit about Tobi knowing an Uzumaki/encountered Kushina is coming from but the chains have never been said to be exclusive to either the Uzumaki or Kushina. Also, the Uzumaki weren't known for using "strange and unusual sealing techniques" they were known for their skills in fūinjutsu though Kushina did say in the translation they were a bit [harsh] never unusual. You also don't know that she was going to drag the beast back into her using the chains, she could have meant a number of things. We've never seen it seal anything merely restrain.--Cerez365Hyūga Symbol 19:45, December 27, 2011 (UTC)

Well, for starters it was Kushina's chakra that was noted to be 'special', not the chains. Now, it could be that the chains (at least the mental ones) are a representation of that 'specialness'. I doubt that the physical chains themselves are a fuinjutsu, since they simply bind and hinder the target, not seal them inside of something else, which all fuinjutsu thus far have done. Really, we're just going to have to wait for future chapters to explain about the chains and how Tobi got them/can use them, assuming they're unique to Kushina. @Cerez, sorry for the confusion I was talking to the person who made the post above you —This unsigned comment was made by 76.16.124.125 (talkcontribs) .

The translation I read said that they were rough, not "harsh", but if harsh is the accurate translation, that would make a lot of sense. sealing someone with chains covered in spikes is pretty harsh. —This unsigned comment was made by 76.16.124.125 (talkcontribs) .
