:I personally think that's a great idea, at least then we're exploiting this opportunity to confront these issues rather than just temporarily ridding ourselves of them, only for them to return in a month’s time (likely with renewed fervour). A specific and well enforced Forum page set out '''not to debate''' these issues, but instead provide suggestions on how to potentially '''resolve them''' could, as Cerez365 says, make everything "''golden again''". However, given how these image discussions have spiralled recently, I do think an admin may likely have to commit themselves to supervising such a page to maintain order and permanently conclude a topic when a good solution has presented itself. Administrative Declaration

And now is the perfect time for me to flex my administrative muscle and tell everyone that this has gone on for far too long. If you think it has or has not, the Image War will end now.

  • 1: Take a good look at the images we have up now. Under no circumstances, will these images be changed for a period pending one (1) month.
An image is old and can be replaced with a "high-quality" image? Tough. It will not change.

Don't like a characters image? Tough. It will not change.

  • 2: Any and all Image Proposals are closed, following the declaration above. No change will be reflected in the articles.
  • 3: Any move to circumvent the above two declarations will result in a week long suspension.
  • 4: New images are allowed to be uploaded and placed into articles as normal, as long as they do not replace any existing picture in the article.
Example; next episode of Naruto airs and screenshots are taken, they can be uploaded as normal.
Example; New episode airs and a screenshot Naruto Uzumaki using Shadow Clone Technique is taken, that image will not replace any picture of the Shadow Clone Technique in Naruto's article or the techniques.

This declaration is effective immediately. Have an issue, take it to my talk page or this page only. Any where else be in violation of Declaration 2 and will result in a week long suspension.

Clarfications by TheUltimate3 Uzumaki Symbol (talk) 19:30, May 18, 2012 (UTC)

Why is this even happening?

Because for close to two months, the wiki has been in a long Image War stretched out across several articles. Images would be uploaded, replaced, uploaded some more, and endlessly debated with no real end in sight. Attempts to discuss why we are even having these discussions turn into flame wars until they fizzle out on their own, only to ignite again later.

I'm a little confused. If I upload an image I'm gonna get banned?

I would be lying if I said no.

Basically as of May 18, 2012, all images in their articles are not to be changed, nor the files they were uploaded in. This means if you you want to change an image in a article, you are unable to so for any reason and doing so will end in a ban.

HOWEVER, uploading a new image with a new purpose is perfectly fine. That has not changed and will not. However I am not stupid. I will notice if someone where to upload an entirely new picture, then use it to replace something with the excuse of "It shows something different" is not just insulting me, but also my intelligence and I will not hesitate to enforce this declaration.

This is the only warning.

What if we're replacing a manga image with an anime image?

An manga image may be replaced with an image from the anime ONCE. As soon as the image is replaced it all rules apply. That means if someone wants to change the image for whatever reason, they will not be able to do so.

How long will this be in effect?

1 month, from May 18th to June 18th.

This date is pending, and can be extended at any time. But as of now, I will not allow this to last more than a month.

Discussion

Any particular reason why? I do think it is going overboard when every other character's talk page is asking to replace an image with a new one, especially when the current one is far superior and is of great quality (i.e Kakashi's infobox image), but if there is indeed a much better image of the character that is appropriate, shouldn't it be used? Skitts (talk) 19:24, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
You can probably check the Narutopedia talk:Image policy#New policy ? page for that Skitts. I do think switching out some infobox images for example is necessary at times, and there's also the issue of people refusing to use image overwrite functions, but a months suspension won't kill us. It'll hopefully give people time to get their bearings straight and such.--Cerez365Hyūga Symbol(talk) 19:29, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
Wow, this is absolutely overboard. I don't edit here much and after this, I might not at all. I understand you have an "Image War" occurring here, but there are better ways to go about solving this. Divert one of your admins or promote a new one that deals with images only. They'll make sure the images are placed in the proper locations, are sourced properly, and whatnot. A complete freeze on images, save for a few instances, is a bad idea for many reasons. It prevents better images from being put in the place of ones with lower quality or not all of the right features. AND when you do lift this image ban, you're going to get a flood of new images, so much you won't be able to keep track. Because users are still going to save images and just wait for the ban to be lifted to use them. Bad move on your part. That's all I'll say about this. {{SUBST:User:Ten Tailed Fox/sig}} 22:27, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
I just want to say it always so good to see you return Ten Tailed. You always seem to reappear after I make one of my more decisive moves. Regardless what's done is done. And I am prepared to meet whatever comes from my decision.--TheUltimate3 Uzumaki Symbol (talk) 22:41, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for that ~_~ I do respect that you are willing to take whatever is coming, so I will relent with that. I will try to stay clear of the image editing side of things for a bit. I have a tenancy of accidentally misreading policies and then going and breaking them without the intention to hehehe Nevertheless, good luck in your endeavors. {{SUBST:User:Ten Tailed Fox/sig}} 22:47, May 18, 2012 (UTC)

I think that while restrictive, this was necessary until the community can forge a way forward. Though I'm also worried that i'll accidentally derp. Any way, I'd also like if the manner issues that lead to this were addressed in an official manner so people can know how to proceed from here. Before I start I'd like readers to know that I'm not flaming or writing angrily, in fact, I'm quite relaxed smoking hookah in an undisclosed location in the back of my car which is probably where I got the courage from to type this. The issues I've found are:

  • Some users are under the notion that x1080 resolution images should replace every possible image even when there's no notable difference. Even though this was turned down and personally, I have no issue with people uploading x1080p resolution images on their own or over a poor quality image but the way it's being implemented now has become counter-productive and a nuisance.
  • The infobox image changes have always happened but went rampant recently with discussions turning into cage matches and at times, even when told there's no need for a change, the "attempt #" continue to go on. Granted there are a lot of times when a person's infobox image could do with some touching up because users find really good images of the person etc.
  • Thirdly, there's the uploading and switching out old images for new HD images like in Naruto Shippūden 2: Bonds for example. That's great because usually initial images come from the initial poor quality ones that are available but people have seeming forgotten the "upload a new version of this file"/image overwriting function which could save a lot of time and trouble doing that. Possibly more emphasis on this use of that function would go a long way.
  • Also, my "hogging" of uploading images as the self-proclaimed image queen chief (I always thought I was just the Herald) has been brought up as an issue. Thinking about it, this might actually be the underlying issue and though I didn't see anyone going out of their way to do this for me, nor did I complain- I paid my dues as a noob ( '-'), I'll try to curb that and give some of the younger ones more of a chance to contribute in that manner.

And that's my bit, I've typed too much (as usual) but I think if we sort through these and set some sort of guidelines, we'll be golden again.--Cerez365Hyūga Symbol(talk) 23:26, May 18, 2012 (UTC)
