"Following the Master's Shadow" (師の影を追って, Shi no Kage o Otte) is episode 153 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime.

Synopsis

Naruto is disheartened of the news and thinks about his time with Jiraiya. Fukasaku reveals the code that Jiraiya left him on his back and tells Tsunade that he has the body of one of Pain's Paths. After hearing this, Tsunade orders an autopsy to be performed on the body, and decryption of the code. Iruka meets with Naruto again, and cheers him up. Unable to help with the decryption of the code, Shikamaru decides to visit Naruto. Together with Naruto, they go out to visit Kurenai. After that, Shikamaru manages to cheer up Naruto, and Naruto decides to help decode the message.

Trivia

In Kakashi's flashback with Jiraiya, there were three minor mistakes:
- Jiraiya was seen wearing a Konoha forehead protector instead of wearing his usual Mount Myōboku one.
- Kakashi was seen without wearing his gloves.
- Tsunade was seen wearing her grandfather's necklace when she clearly gave it to Naruto before returning to her village.
