Obito using fire technique

Obito using a fire technique.

Fire Release (火遁, Katon, English TV: Fire Style) is one of the basic elemental nature transformations. It is performed by molding superheated chakra inside the stomach before releasing it via the lungs and mouth. However, there are exceptions to this in the form of some mediums[1][2][3]

Commonly affiliated with the Tiger hand seal, Fire Release techniques are mid to long-ranged jutsu that cause combustive and explosive damage. The chakra nature is common among shinobi of Konohagakure in the Land of Fire with the Uchiha clan possessing a common affinity and a subsequent specialty in its use. Amaterasu, a Mangekyō Sharingan technique is stated to be the highest level of fire nature transformation.[4] Fire Release is strong against wind because flames are fed and sustained by oxygen. It is also weak against water due to its cooling properties.

Trivia

  • Fire chakra is a component of two different kekkei genkai: Boil Release and Lava Release.
  • Fire chakra is also a component in the kekkei tōta: Dust Release.
  • In addition, Fire Release possesses an advanced variant known as Blaze Release which is made possible through the manipulation of Amaterasu.
  • Fire Release parallels the real-life ninja art "katon-no-jutsu". One example of real-life katon-no-jutsu is Hitsuke: the practice of distracting guards by starting a fire away from the ninja's planned point of entry.
