"Explode! Sage Mode" (爆発! 仙人モード, Bakuhatsu! Sennin Mōdo) is episode 163 of the Naruto: Shippūden anime.

Synopsis

Naruto is summoned by Shima along with some other toads, visibly surprised to see Konohagakure utterly destroyed. Knowing full well that Pain is responsible, Naruto confronts him. However, Tsunade intervenes and challenges to fight Pain instead, but she proves to be helpless since she used all of her chakra to heal and protect the villagers from Pain's Shinra Tensei. Pain, through the Deva Path, informs her that she is not the one he seeks as the rejuvenated Asura Path moves to attack her. Naruto intervenes, smashing the it Path with a single punch, and orders Gamakichi to take Tsunade to a safe place and to inform everyone not to interfere in his battle with Pain. The Animal Path sends out its summons against Naruto. Using Sage Art: Big Ball Rasengan, Naruto sends the summons flying high into the air to be dispatched by Gamabunta, Gamaken and Gamahiro. Confronted by Preta Path, he uses Frog Kata to defeat him. Pain claims that he and Naruto had the same teacher and should have the same visions on peace, involving Naruto sacrificing his life and handing over the Nine-Tails for that cause. Naruto angrily rejects this view and throws the new Rasenshuriken, shocking Fukasaku, Shima, Sakura, and an unnamed Hyūga clan member.
