After hearing Sasuke declare that he wanted to know the truth, Kabuto surmises that Sasuke was suspicious of his brother, having already heard the truth and as such never returned to Konohagakure because of his intent to destroy it for making his brother suffer. Calling Itachi a liar and stating that he had gone as far as to eradicate his entire clan in order to protect the village, he asks Sasuke whether or not what he was doing was more akin to his own goals of wanting to continue what Orochimaru started and destroy Konoha. Attempting to inveigle him to his side once again, Sasuke has a flashback of a conversation he overheard with a group of Konoha-nin bad-mouthing Itachi after which he declares that he was nothing like Kabuto and that crushing Konoha was his own ambition. Telling his brother not to listen to Kabuto, Itachi commences his plan of action, telling his brother that he would use one of the clan's ultimate dōjutsu. Believing it to be Izanagi, Sasuke questions his brother on this. Itachi however corrects his brother as he clashes with Kabuto while wielding Sasuke's sword telling him that this was a technique that can decide destiny.
Kabuto finds it strange that Sasuke is getting along well with Itachi, and is surprised when he learns Sasuke already knows the truth about Itachi, commenting that many of his actions make more sense considering that. Kabuto points out that by attacking Konoha, Sasuke is going against Itachi's wishes, and that if he wants to attack Konoha, Sasuke should join him, as he's carrying out Orochimaru's wishes of destroying Konoha. Sasuke thinks back to after Itachi's death, when news about it spread, how Konoha-nin were glad that the "traitor" had been killed. Sasuke says that his destroying of Konoha is his own. Kabuto explains how he was brought up in Konoha as a spy, losing his sense of self by living a life of lies, eventually no longer being trusted by them. Kabuto offers to be Sasuke's older brother, claiming to understand how Sasuke was mould to be what he is. Itachi interrupts him, telling Sasuke not to believe Kabuto, who he considers a better spy and liar than himself, and that he's still Konoha's Itachi Uchiha. Itachi goes on, saying he can't criticise Sasuke's actions, being responsible for it, and wishing to tell him something, after they deal with Kabuto. Kabuto repeats that as the user of Impure World Resurrection, he can't be killed, his regenerative powers will render only serious damage useless, and the protection he has in his eyes renders their genjutsu useless. Itachi is annoyed by this, and Sasuke asks what should they do. Itachi explains that Uchiha's eyes can affect the opponent beyond the five senses, in exchange for losing its light. Sasuke impresses Itachi by knowing about Izanagi, explaining that Danzō used it against him. Itachi says he's not talking about Izanagi, but of a technique that makes a pair with it, Izanami. Kabuto attacks as he compares Izanagi and Izanami, telling Sasuke to stay close to him and blocks Kabuto with his sword.

Recalling his life in Konoha, Kabuto begins to renounce the village and tells Sasuke that he would be his new brother.
