Background
Despite the black receivers being a trademark of the Rinnegan,[1] Madara was able to produce them without possessing the dōjutsu while connected to the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path via Hashirama's artificial body, and stated that they were a manifestation of his will in physical form.[2] At times, black rods identical to those that Madara created protrude from the Demonic Statue's midsection; in one instance, these rods pierced Nagato's back when he summoned the statue, draining his life force while allowing him to control it.[3][4]

In Naruto Shippūden: Shinobi Rumble, Pain has a technique called "Black Needle Stab" (黒針突, Kokushintō), in which he simply dashes at the opponent and stabs them with the blade variant, causing their controls to become temporarily reversed; an enhanced "Full Throttle" version is also available, called "Black Needle Stab: Destructive Flash" (黒針突・滅閃, Kokushintō: Metsusen). As no specific name was given for these weapons in the manga, this may imply that they are officially known as "Black Needles" (黒針, Kokushin).
Trivia
- It was shown that the receivers inserted in the reincarnated jinchūriki moved in position when they entered Tailed Beast Mode. As seen with Rōshi, when he transformed into Son Gokū, the receiver moved from his chest up to the tailed beast's neck.[25]
