The Last: Naruto the Movie comes out in theaters in Japan in a few days and I think we need to figure out how to handle information from the movie before then.
In the past, movie information has generally not been added to the wiki until the DVD was released. There were two reasons for this:
- few, if any, editors saw the movies while they were in theaters and so there was nobody who could add the information even if they wanted to.
- the movies didn't matter for anything, so there was no point in tracking down plot synopses from those who did see the movie and adding it to the wiki.
The first point probably won't change. The second point, however, is not likely to happen here because The Last is actually canon; people will find out what happens - even if they can't find out much - and add what they find to the wiki.
Yesterday (don't click the link if you don't want to be spoiled) I reverted an edit about something that happens in the movie. My own concern is not so much about the character's status change as it is the lack of context about that status change. Who is Kyomu? Why the thing that happens? Adding information without greater context is something I don't personally feel the wiki should be doing.
The question then is, what does the wiki do? Do we update the wiki based on a few, possibly poor or even misleading plot summaries? Do we wait until the movie is widely available? Do we delay things in the hopes that Retsu no Sho is very informative about the events of the movie?
